"Battlestar Galactica" End Date Set

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that "Battlestar Galactica" will end after its upcoming fourth season. The article states that this decision was made by executive producers Ronald Moore and David Eick.

Here is the quote from Moore and Eick:

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end," Eick and Moore said in a statement Thursday. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there - we're going out with a bang."

Since the season three finale, speculation was rampant about the future of "Battlestar Galactica". When the show was renewed for a full 22 episode run, the discussion died down for a while, until Edward James Olmos ("Adama") was quoted at the Saturn awards, saying that this was the final season. Although the rumor was debunked by many sources, it turns out Olmos was accurate. Don't ever doubt Bill Adama!

The final season of "Battlestar Galactica" will debut on the SCI FI Channel in early 2008. A planned two hour movie based on the Pegusus ("Razor") will air in November. It's been a great run - so let's enjoy this final season!

This is an excellent decision. Once the additional Cylons were revealed in the season three finale, I was wondering how much longer the show had left (especially now that Starbuck "knows" the way to Earth). One more season feels about right and, given the way this show has played out, I anticipate it's going to be the end-all, be-all of kick-ass seasons.

I am thinking the same thing. You can't continue the show after they get to Earth (at least, not for too long). It's going to be a very nice start of 2008!
