Sci-Fi Fodder

"Dresden Files" DVD Raffle

I get an increasing amount of "Save Our Show" mail. Since this is the calm before the storm of new network Sci-Fi shows (for which * I promise* to post a good list in the near future!), I thought I would pass this one along.

The campaign, "NEW HOME 4 DRESDEN”, is doing something a little different - they are hosting a raffle! For a $1.00 donation, you can buy a chance for a Season One DVD set. Tickets are available through this link, and the raffle will run from 8/8/07 through 9/8/07, so you have plenty of time act if you are so inclined.

My first question was - why a raffle? The organizers state that their goal is "...to visibly impact the ledgers of Lionsgate by purchasing large quantities of DVD’s — to convince them that the Dresden Files is worth their time and investment". They also have the obligatory petition up at this New Home 4 Harry site.

I wish these guys well. They are working the angle that the hardcore "Dresden" fan is a valuable commodity to retain. I maintain that they need to increase the mainstream buzz about the show (which I previously proposed as a reason behind the cancellation). However, this is not a bad start, especially if they can generate some publicity via the raffle.

Hey, thanks for the mention. Our campaign is different than the typical 'harass the network' strategies.

The focus of our renewal campaign has been an online marketing campaign to raise awareness and drive DVD sales. And as of last night, the DVD was still #1 at Amazon for TV DVD's/1990 or newer and spent the week in the top 50 DVD's overall, in the top 25 for a good portion of that. And that's without any ads or apparent promotional effort from SciFi -- just a lot of good word of mouth.

Please, folks, check out our renewal campaign forums, where there are all kinds of activities to help the show, some that don't take much time at all. You could:
-- Write good reviews for the DVD (we've got Amazon and Netflix covered nicely, but could use some help at places like WalMart and Overstock)
-- Hotlink and download banners advertising the DVD to use as your signature in other forums
-- Buy a raffle ticket to help raise some running money for the campaign
-- Download flyers and postcards to post offline in heavily-trafficked areas in your vicinity
-- Write to the production personnel/networks to send letters of support; addresses are listed
-- Write to various entertainment journalists, magazines, online portals, etc. expressing your good will toward the show
-- When the campaign/show gets a mention, folks are listing it so you can add your thanks and comments
-- You could help 'clean up' the IMDB page for TDF by upvoting good reviews, downvoting bad reviews and leaving nice comments on the message board

This was my favorite show of the past TV season. I would watch TDF on any channel. Hopefully Lionsgate lands the show elsewhere - a la Buffy. I am buying a ticket !!
