"Flash Gordon" Debuts Tonight
The new "Flash Gordon" series debuts tonight on the SCI FI Channel (at 9 PM). Although I have already set up a TiVo Season Pass (hey! it's Flash Gordon!), I wanted to know if it was going to be any good. My initial thoughts were that it had the potential to be good, campy fun - or totally awful.
Now, after searching around for some reviews, I have concluded that I probably shouldn't have looked. The reviews are pretty unanimously bad.
Here is the most positive review so far (via the Orlando Sentinel):
"Sci Fi's "Flash Gordon" didn't knock my socks off. But I'm hardly ready to write off the campy series, either."
Hmmm...hardly a stellar endorsement! Still, I'm going to watch it. After all, the Reuters reviewer concluded, "...this doesn't merit must-see weekly viewing unless you're a true sci-fi diehard. And you know who you are.".
Yes. Yes, I do.
FLASH GORDON is worth watching. Remember this is a pilot, and like all pilots it has problems. but it has no more problems than the much loved AQUA-MAN pilot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only character that I found distracting was the bounty hunter girl. Dale, who was universally panned in the reviews, was pretty good for me.
I'll give it a slot on the TiVo for a good tryout!

While the premier of "Flash" didn't overwhelm me, I don't think it deserved the overly critical reviews either. It's a camp series, and it's obvious the series creators and Scifi didn't put much effort into recruiting scintillating and vocabulary-clever writers. But the series could be fun, no-brainer viewing, and it's worth tuning in for and checking out - at least until Fall Premier season arrives
