Tim Minear is back - and this time, he will not have to deal with FOX executives!
SCI FI Wire (via The Hollywood Reporter) is reporting that Tim Minear and Todd Holland have "...teamed for Miracle Man, a supernatural drama project that sparked a bidding war between ABC and Fox and landed at ABC". They have a committment to create a pilot for the new show, with no debut date set at this time.
"Miracle Man" (or "Miracle" - the article has the title listed both ways) will tell the story of a disgraced former televangelist, who discovers that God is using him to perform miracles. It's an interesting dramatic concept. With Minear and Holland involved, I am sure that it will be witty and smart, too. Minear says the story will be about a man "...losing everything and starting over and finding that there is a higher purpose in life...about a man who says, 'I don't know how to be good, but I'll try to be better.'"
Minear and Holland previously worked together on the short-lived (but very good!) FOX show, "Wonderfalls". FOX, of course, summarily cancelled it before the run was finished. Minear also recently helmed the short-lived (but very good!) FOX show, "Drive", which was summarily cancelled before it's run was finished. And, he did "Firefly" and "The Inside"...do you see why I am happy this show is not on FOX?
ABC is a much better fit. The last time Minear worked with ABC, he was writing for one of my all time favorites - "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". L&C lasted five seasons, by the way. I have to believe that ABC will give this show every opportunity to succeed, especially after winning the bidding war on the concept.
Minear is one of those guys. Everything he writes I seem to like. So, I'll be keeping an eye out for more news on this new project. Congratulations to Tim Minear!
