"Supernatural" Plot Looks Good!

SCI FI Wire recently talked to Eric Kripke, creator and executive producer of "Supernatural", about the upcoming third season of the CW drama.

The interview really excited me about the prospects for this show. Here is the excerpt:

"This is the season to join the party," Kripke said in an interview. "Or for fans, this is the season they've been waiting for. From the beginning I was always like, 'Oh, man just let us get to season three.' Because season one and two we set the chess board, and in season three, really all hell breaks loose."

Now, I rated this one of the best shows on TV last season...could it really get better?

So far, I like what I hear. The third season of a television series is often the best. Many still think "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" season three was one of the greatest ever filmed. "Lost" just enjoyed a resurgence in Season 3. It seems that most creators have a three season arc in mind. The first season is the tease, the second is the setup and the payoff comes in good ol' season 3.

It also sounds like Kripke has a good handle on the balance that he needs to maintain between the hardcore fan (who wants the season long arc) and the network (who require standalone episodes to presumably draw new viewers). "Supernatural" is one of those shows where I don't actually mind the occasional standalone. The plot pace can get heated and a break from the main plot can infuse something extra into the series. The planned Christmas episode about the Belsnickel sounds like a hoot.

So, make sure this show is in a prominent spot on the TiVo! Supernatural returns on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on your local CW affliate.
