"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. "
Robert Jordan, author of the widely read "Wheel of Time" series, died on September 16th, 2007 after a long battle with cardiac amyloidosis. Jordan was diagnosed with the disease in March 2006. He was in the process of completing the twelfth and final book in the Wheel of Time series ("A Memory of Light") when he passed away.
There are many questions surrounding how far he progressed in the writing of the book, since many fans have been reading this series since 1990. A post on the authors blog by Wilson indicates that there is some hope for the completion of the book, since "...during a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL...Truly magical. All I can say is WOW!" More speculation on the future of the Wheel of Time can be found here.
I have read all of the books in this series to date. And, although at times I felt like it took 100 pages for a character to ride a horse from Point A to Point B, I really have enjoyed the Wheel of Time series. I'll miss James Oliver Rigney, Jr. (a.k.a Robert Jordan). Rest in peace.
I don't know about the milking revenues...but, it does seem like he either decided (or was told) to make the series longer. However, on the bright side, book 11 really started to pick things up again. I was looking forward to the finish again, for the first time in years.

He knew he was sick and that his time was near, so it's very possible that he left notes for someone else to complete.
It still won't be the same though, who-ever finishes it just won't have that same style. It'll be like with Tolkien, who's son ended up finishing the last book.
Robert jordan did not extend the books to make revenue, he actually donated a lot of money from what i've heard. Yes the book serious was only sposed to be 4 books long, so if your on book 7 it was spsoed to be done 3 books ago. But the serious (obviously) grew much more complex and he added a lot of plots into it, books 8-10 are very slow and even jordan admitted htey wern't as fast as the previous ones (as 200 pages later rand manages to stand up, after discribing every detail)... but book 11 the speed is picked up and book 12 was spsoed to be very fast. Also we know that jordan planned the rest of his books and was written down becuase he constanly refuers tot he "checking of his notes" on teh tor website. everything he has writen and planned to he has made notes on, very extensive notes as aparently every noble house even has a family tree in his notes. so we know that somone could and will finish his works, the only problem is it won't be a jordan book, and most people feel in love with his style of writing
RIP robert jordan

I've read a few comments (on Amazon I think) saying he was obviously making the story much longer than needed to milk revenues. I don't know yet because I'm on book 7. So I'm wondering if this is going to be a literary monument on why an author shouldn't do that, or will it be finished by some other author so that people who've managed to stay alive this long will have an ending to the story? It's one thing to hear his brother/cousin (inbread?) say that he's heard the ending and it's so awesome and whatnot, but how about the rest of us? Did RJ make it known to another author, make notes or an outline as to how everything was to be resolved? I'm only on book 7 and there's plenty of questions and subplots as it is. Who killed Asmodean... will that ever be answered authoritatively?
Anyway, it's sad RJ has died, but it'll be even sadder if his work becomes a literary monument of the negative kind since he seemed like a positive person.
