Sci-Fi Fodder

2008 Sci-Fi Shows

With the writer's strike still on-going, there is a lot of confusion on what we will actually be watching in early 2008. So, I did a little research (thanks to the Futon Critic and a few other sites) and found some information on the slate of Sci-Fi shows for this winter. Everything here is as accurate as I can make it - of course, that just means that the dates will change as soon as I publish this.

ABC
"Eli Stone" (Thursday, 10:00 - 11:00 PM EST - debuts Jan. 31)
This is a new offering, with possibly the corniest tag line ever. "Over the years, the legal trade has earned billions… but with Eli Stone, it has finally made a prophet." Yikes! It does have an 'Ally McBeal' vibe from the trailers, so it might catch on.

"Lost" (Thursday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - debuts Jan. 31)
Season 4 begins in about a month! The trailer ads look fantastic!

CBS
"Jericho" (Tuesday, 10:00 - 11:00 PM - debuts Feb. 12th)
The return of the once-cancelled show. The previews look very compelling, with the formation of a new national government and Jake become Sheriff.

"Moonlight" (Friday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - returns Jan. 11)
There are only a few more episodes that have been filmed - but, I want to see more of the "Coraline" storyline.

NBC
"Knight Rider" (Sunday, 9:00 - 11:00 PM EST - debuts Feb. 17)
Even though this is just a two-hour movie, Variety dubbed it a "backdoor pilot". So, if it does well, this will likely be a series later in the year.

FOX
"Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (Monday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - debuts Jan. 13)
I love the cast (Lena Headley, Summer Glau), so I am hoping this turns out to be good. I'll do my best to get a "first impressions" post out as soon as I can. Note that "Sarah" will air on Mondays, but FOX is doing the Sunday-Monday premiere with this, so the first episode will be on Sunday, January 13th.

"New Amsterdam" (Friday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - debuts Feb. 22)
The 'immortal who cannot age until he meets his true love' show. I believe there are only about seven episodes in this first run, so it better be good right out of the box. The "Angel" comparisons will be fierce...

ABC Family
"Kyle XY" (Friday, 8:00 - 9:00 PM EST - returns Jan. 14)
Kyle is still going strong. It's on the list because my wife really, really likes it. :-)

SCI FI
"Flash Gordon" (Friday, 8:00 - 9:00 PM EST - returns Jan. 4)
"Stargate: Atlantis" (Friday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - returns Jan. 4)
SCI Friday is set with new episodes from both of these shows. I have soured on "Flash" a bit - there are still a few unwatched episodes from the first set of episodes on my TiVo. Still, if the strike continues, I might just go back and pick it up.

"Battlestar Galactica" (Friday, 10:00 - 11:00 PM EST - debuts March)
Yup - that is all SCI FI will say - "Battlestar Galactica returns in March 2008". Hopefully, they will firm up the date in the near future. Until then, we can always pick up the "Razor" DVD!

BBC America
"Torchwood" (Saturday, 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST - debuts Jan. 26)
It's the second season of "Torchwood", for those of you that get BBC America. If not, put it on the list for summer DVD viewing.

MyTVNetwork
If you think the shows I listed above are Sci Fi, MyTVNetwork has revived the "Paradise Hotel", which was originally aired in 2003.

The return of "Paradise Hotel" = the end of Civilization. We are doomed.
