"Stargate: The Ark of Truth"

SCI FI Wire is reporting that "...a feature-length movie that continues the story of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate SG-1, debuts on DVD March 11 from MGM Home Entertainment." This is the first of two planned movies that should be released in 2008.

"Stargate: The Ark of Truth" is set after the series finale ("Unending") and features the climax of the Ori storyline. SCI FI Wire confirms that Amanda Tapping, Beau Bridges, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Christopher Judge and Claudia Black are all present in the movie.

Here's the marketing text:

The story centers on SG-1 as it searches for an ancient weapon that could help it defeat the sinister Ori. Traveling to a distant galaxy aboard the Odyssey, the team finds itself fighting two powerful enemies.

It sounds pretty decent to me, especially if the writer's strike continues and there is nothing but reality TV available. Heck, I might even rent seasons 1-10 and watch the whole thing for continuity's sake!

The DVD will carry a suggested retail price of $26.98 and will be available in March.

There'd be little point in renting out seasons 1-7 if you simply want to catch up on the show's mythos in preparation for the straight-to-DVD movie.

Instead, rent seasons 9-10 in order to get up to speed on the Ori storyline.

They'll also have a small feature on the DVD that will be a long "What happened last week" type summary. Can't exclude all the SG newbies, you know.
