"Jericho" Has Short Leash

SCI FI Wire has an interesting post on the possible fate of "Jericho".

The show is scheduled for a seven episode run (which will comprise the entire second season). However, executive producer Carol Barbee was quoted as saying "...that she should know pretty early on whether the show will live beyond the seven-episode second season...I would imagine that probably, they usually start to have an opinion around the third airing, so usually by then your fate can be sealed in terms of it not going well."

So, if you are a fan of "Jericho", make sure that everyone you know turns in to the first few episodes. Not just via TiVo - I suspect "Jericho" will need to do well in live eyeballs to survive. After all, it's CBS that we are talking about here...

The SCI FI Wire article makes a point that the writers' strike may work in the show's favor, since there are very few new show episodes (other than reality TV) on the air during this period. In addition, the seven episodes comprise a complete storyline, so it should be more satisfing to the audience. To quote Barbee again: "If there's any good that comes out of the writers' strike, I'm hoping, besides a good deal, I'm hoping it's in the favor of Jericho."

The second season of "Jericho" debuts on February 12th at 10 PM ET.
