Still No Word on "Moonlight"

There is still no word on whether or not CBS has decided to renew "Moonlight" for the fall season.

I know that CBS has not released it's final set of renewed programs, but it's disturbing that the show was not included in the first wave. Sure, the first episode was horrendous. But, it really did improve over the course of the season. More importantly, (according to Michael over at SyFyPortal), the show retained it's core audience for the entire run. The show's lowest rating came in its third week, which was just a little more than one ratings point below its premiere. He also noted that media darling "Heroes" had a two ratings point different between its highest overnight and lowest overnight rating.

One bad bit of news is still out there. Show runner Chip Johannessen has left the production. He's the second show runner to depart, with David Greenwalt leaving prior to the debut of the series. However, this is not a huge deal - I don't think the show runner will have an effect on CBS's decision to renew.

The numbers seem to say that the show will survive. But, to be safe, there are petition sites here and here to sign (note - I am not familar with the second site, although it seems to have a good amount of traffic).

First off, the first episode was NOT "horrendous". Second, the reason CBS has not yet announced it's fall renewal is because they are waiting to see how the 4 new episodes rank. It's no secret to anyone and one would think you would have inquired before writing this article!

OK...let me clarify. In my opinion, the first episode was horrendous, with the bad voiceover dialogue and the bad 'mick is driving' scenes. Most of the media agreed with me about the debut(here's a link to a summary of what the major outlets said about it: "http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34222") too, so I was not on an island there.

Luckily, it got much better and I actually *like* the show now!

As for the second point - yup, they are waiting. But, CBS announced quite a few renewals already...which makes a "Moonlight" renewal less likely. We are banking on the show meeting some vague number that a CBS exec has in their head, when a new episode hasn't been on in quite some time. That's not a scenario for success.

Really, I was just trying to get across that I am getting worried about the future of the show. Slam dunks (like Chuck and Heroes on NBC) have already got their renewal orders. Shows like "Moonlight" and "Jericho" are still waiting...and that means that they are in danger.

I loved the first episode. Just a wonderful way to open up a vampire series. That scene in the fountain was beautiful, dead body and all.
