"Supernatural" Prequel?

Reports are surfacing that a "Supernatural: prequel may be in the works. Eric Kripke, the uber-talented creator of show, has recently signed a two-year contract with Warner Brothers. He will continue to lead "Supernatural", but also start working on the development of other projects.

Kripke has previously spoke about doing a "Supernatural"-related project set in the Old West. Most people think that it would center around the creation of the demon-killing Colt, although it could be a Winchester ancestor, or something completely different. It's speculation, after all.

Still, I think this is fantastic news. Kripke is rapidly moving up - his fanboy level (at least for me) is starting to approach 'Joss Whedon' levels - and any news of additional Kripke projects should be watched closely. Whatever it turns out to be, I bet it will be solid.

To be honest, although I would love a prequel, I think I am more excited to see what Kripke does next!

I just hope this doesn't mean that Supernatural will suffer for Kripke's involvement in other projects. Joss Whedon, for all of his touted "greatness", left his shows in the hands of less-than-capable writers and Buffy suffered for the switch to Angel and Angel suffered for the switch to Firefly. Same with J.J. Abrams. Alias suffered for Lost. So, I'm all for Kripke getting more clout in Hollywood--and even developing Supernatural tie-ins--but not at the expense of "his baby". Supernatural is the best show on television and I don't want that to change.

I worried about the same thing. I thin Joss had built up enough talent around him to keep the quality up - but Abrams really did let Alias fall off.

I have a feeling the Kripke will be OK if they are sticking to project development. Once a new project actually hits the air - *that's* when we have to worry.
