I have to admit it - I am a bit bored this summer. Sure, I love "The Middleman" and I am happy that "Eureka" is back and I still watch "Doctor Who", but I am not really engaged with the small screen right now. The big screen is not much better, with only "The Dark Knight" and "Iron Man" really sparking my interest. again. Overall, I just haven't been that engaged with the things that are going on around the Sci-Fi universe.
So, I thought I would take a step back and list a few things that I really *am* excited about. Here goes!
Favorite shows and their imminent return
"Chuck", "Reaper" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (along with "Lost", "Battlestar Galactica" and "Supernatural") all will be back this season. Color me happy about that!
The astute reader has probably noticed that I left "Heroes" and "Pushing Daisies" off the list. That will probably be the topic of another post...
The "Watchman" Movie
I was one of those that went out and re-read the classic graphic novel when I heard about the movie. Evidently, I was not the only one who had that idea. According to Publisher's Weekly, after the release of the "Watchman" movie trailer, sales for the graphic novel have gone through the roof. DC has shipped an additional 300,000 copies of the novel out to booksellers to satisfy demand.
Director Zack Snyder maintains he is remaining faithful to the novel - which means this will be on my absolute 'must see' list.
"Dollhouse"
Of all of the new shows that will be debuting on the networks this season, "Dollhouse" is clearly my most anticipated new show. It would be enough just to have Joss Whedon write and Eliza Dushku play the lead - my fanboy-ness would force me to watch it for that alone. However, I have been trying to find a flaw, or a stumble, or some reason to temper my expectations.
I can't.
Even the news that a new pilot episode was shot (which is typically very bad in my book) was mitigated by Joss himself, saying that he endorsed the decision and was fully involved. This is the opposite of the debacle with "Firefly", when FOX chose a separate episode that they thought fit better as a pilot. This is a concerted effort to improve the introduction to the show.
There are several other hyped shows this fall, most notably "Fringe" - but none of them are standing up to scrutiny as well as "Dollhouse".
