Sci-Fi News and Reviews

Best Selling Sci-FI Books

The SCI FI Wire site occasionally lists the top selling Sci-Fi books on the bottom of the news page. This month, it caught my eye.

Here is the list (which they sourced from Amazon, dated 12/6/2008):

  1. The Tales of Beedle the Bard
  2. Eclipse (Twilight 3)
  3. Breaking Dawn (Twilight 4)
  4. New Moon (Twilight 2)
  5. Twilight
  6. The Twilight Saga: Slipcased
  7. The Shack
  8. Sookie Stackhouse Boxed Set
  9. Brisingr (Inheritance 3)
  10. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, collector's edition

Wow - not a lot of variety, even if I really like vampires! Five "Twilight" entries, a "True Blood" compilation, two "Harry Potter" world stories and another in the "Eragon" series. The only listing that is 'different' is "The Shack", which is a religious/sci-fi melding about a man who's daughter was murdered, and details his falling away from God, and (presumably) his journey back.

So, for this holiday season, it looks like Sci-Fi readers will be getting vampire novels. Which is cool...but a nice space-faring speculative fiction novel would be a pleasant surprise. Maybe I'll just pull out "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" again. You can never go wrong with a Heinlein classic!
