The SCI FI Channel has finally given a green light to "Caprica", the much anticipated prequel to the "Battlestar Galactica" franchise. Huzzah! Twenty episodes have been ordered, and the cast will include veteran actors Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson and Polly Walker.
Now, the question is - will it be any good?
I think it has a pretty good chance.
The story (trying not to be too spoilery here) is set 50 years prior to the "Battlestar Galactica" series. It centers on two leading families on the planet Caprica - the Greystones and the now-very-familar Adamas.
That may sound a bit soap opera-y, but remember that this series is about the creation of the Cylons as well. Thus, the primary focus of the story will be the role that these two families have in bringing about the events prior to the "Battlestar Galactica" storyline. "Caprica" has the services of "Battlestar Galactica" creators Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, as well as "24" vet Remi Aubuchon, so the writing should be top-notch.
All in all, "Caprica" has the potential to be a strong addition to my TiVo lineup. The series is slated to debut in 2010.
