"Heroes" Renewed
Vic over at ScreenRant is reporting that "Heroes" has been renewed for a fourth 4th season.
Hooray.
Forgive my lack of enthusiam, but I have very nearly lost interest in the show. Currently, I have four unwatched episodes archived on the TiVo, with no real motivation to catch up. I've felt this way for a while, as my previous posts show.
Vic notes that the show, despite somewhat low ratings, is "...doing relatively well in the target demographic". But, that fact must be tempered with the knowledge that people like me (i.e. those of us taping but not watching) are counted in the final tally. I bet there are more than just me!
“We’ve spent a lot of time in the writers room talking about what season 4 is going to look like… Basically, the last act of episode 25, similar to what’s been done in the past, opens up a new chapter of Heroes. It sets up arcs for a variety of characters. We set all the pieces up in terms of Claire’s attitude and what her trajectory is going to be in season 4. You will have a very strong idea by the end of this season’s final episode where Claire is going and what’s going to be happening with the Petrellis.”
Some people might see hope in those statements - I just see that the remaining episodes of *this* season will suck, and will just be setup for next year. Is that seeing the glass half-empty?
For the record, "Heroes" is staying on my TiVo (for now). I have hope that Fuller will be able to add some consistency to the series. However, I chose to watch Nathan Fillion's new show "Castle", rather than "Heroes", last night...and it was more entertaining than my memories of recent "Heroes". That's probably not a good sign.
if you don't watch a show on your DVR within a week of it's air date you are NOT counted in it's ratings

You openly admit in this article that you're not really following this series anymore, so how can you honestly say or even remotely suggest that it's a terrible show?
I have never followed a series that didn't have some kind of BS, contrived storyline that made me want to quit watching at one point or another. It happens. But if you decide to give up on watching it, you should probably not the be the one to write a review about it, or any story pertaining to it. Perhaps letting someone that actually follows what's going on write the articles in the future would be wise. Then maybe those of us that still give it a chance would be interested in what was written.

However, remember that I am writing about the show being renewed, and not about any particular episode or plotline. Basically, I don't think it deserves another season. The basis for that opinion is the 2nd, 3rd and first six or so episodes of this season (as well as peripherally catching parts of others). So, that is a fairly broad body of work under consideration.
But, honestly, I *can* say I watched shows that were internally consistent enough that I never found a "contrived storyline that made me want to quit watching at one point or another". Let's throw out "Angel", "Firefly", "Lost", "Battlestar Galactica", "The Middleman" and many others. I am not saying that those shows are without flaws; I am saying that they never strayed so far that I was ready to delete them from the TiVo.
I might be getting meaner and harder to please as I age, since I have been finding more shows disappointing than before. But, I just can't see a "Heroes" renewal over "Chuck" - and that is probably what is going to happen.
Heroes no longer records on my DVR. I knew it was time to stop watching when I would fall asleep within the first 10 minutes or so.
