Great Month for Sci-Fi Movies

In my world of T-Ball games and ballerina recitals, visiting the movie theater is getting to be more a guilty pleasure, rather than an every week event. However, the month of May is really making me think of ways to get out there. Just check out this list of Sci-Fi movies:

Debuting on May 1st

Debuting on May 8th

Debuting on May 21st/May22nd

So, what to see?

This is where having kids is tough. Although I *want* to see "Star Trek" as soon as it hits the theater, I will likely be seeing "The Battle for Terra" or "Night at the Museum", version 2. I really have been reserving my opinion on the Trek movie (no posts from me!), but after watching the trailers, I am hooked. Kirk looks right; Spock looks like a clone of Nimoy - everything looks awesome!

The opposite is true for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Although I am a fan of Wolverine in general, the characters just don't look the way I expected. Sabertooth isn't much bigger than Wolverine; Emma Frost turns to a diamond (I know...she gets the power in later versions of the comic, but I still don't like it). Even worse, the movie must be in some alternative time-line, since Scott Summers doesn't seem to know Wolverine in the initial X-Men movies...but, yet, here he is as a teenager in this movie.

Heck, the movie may end up being a great action flick, worth of the X-Men title. But, my expectations are low.

Out of these, the one that looks spot-on to how it SHOULD look is Star Trek. From the costumes and colors to the sets and effects, J.J. Abrams looks to have another hit on his hands that may attract even non-Trekkers like myself.
