"Lost" Picked up for Fourth Season

E Online says ABC has picked "Lost" up for a fourth season.

The show's ratings have declined in the third season, especially after an ill-advised 13-week hiatus. But "Lost" still pulls in more than 12 million viewers per week, and it does particularly well with the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demo.

There are also rumblings that the fourth season could take a note from "24" and run uninterrupted from January-May. -- Mac

There was never really a doubt, but it's still good news. I really hope it does run "24" style all the way through with no hiatus once it starts. Even if that means waiting until Jan. or Feb. for the premiere.

I'm with JoePike! Give us all the episodes with no hiatus. The wait was almost unbearable. Thank you ABC for season four. If it's anything like these last few epi's we are in for a ride.

I think we're already seeing the benefits of uninterrupted episodes. It's taken a while, but the week-after-week interest I've seen from the last three episodes certainly defends the idea. This is an intricate show that requires a lot of investment -- and if you slow down or take a break, it's inevitable that people are going to drift. A straight 22- or 23-week run could do wonders for the show. -- mac

Yay! I am so excited that Lost will be back!It seems like the producers don't really care about the show anymore, I'm glad that there will at least be one more season!

#4. Posted by: jack4ever at March 22, 2007 8:36 PM

Although I heard lots of complaints, nobody that I know personally has stopped watching the show because of the pause. Im sure though that a long run of eps would improve the overall feel of fan appreciation. With too many breaks we forget important plots and events too easily. This week's episode may have been the best yet, in my opinion.

#5. Posted by: kilorooster at March 22, 2007 11:29 PM

Personally I think it should be split evenly in half. Give us 11 episodes with a TWO-HOUR cliffhanger splitting them up. I felt sooo cheated with no 2-hour episode this time around. And six episodes didn't cut it this year. AND I simply can't wait until Jan/Feb of '08.

I loved the Sopranos VERY much but couldn't give a rat's posterior about that series now.

#6. Posted by: Dr. Bologna at March 23, 2007 3:52 AM

Oh, and why the heck am I still up?

#7. Posted by: Dr. Bologna at March 23, 2007 3:53 AM

Good News.

So, given that the 12-week hiatus is being blamed for the declining ratings, what do you all foresee for next year? Back to the randon-rerun pattern of S1 and S2?

#8. Posted by: Cecil Rose at March 23, 2007 11:22 AM

I agree about the Sopranos. I was all into it, and then I just forgot about it one day. I didn't even realize it was still on. Is it?

How many more episodes of Lost do we have to go until it's finished for the season. Please tell me it's more than a few.

#9. Posted by: meg at March 23, 2007 1:36 PM

meg - I think the Sopranos return in May for it's final season.

#10. Posted by: Dr. Bologna at March 23, 2007 3:08 PM

A January 2008 wait wouldn't be so bad as long as I was able to watch re-runs of Lost and nothing else.

Shoot me now if I have to endure lame shows like George Lopez, According to JimBob or any dufus season replacement they televise. ABC can be rather relentless!

#11. Posted by: amelia at March 23, 2007 4:59 PM

Cecil,

I think we'll see a new or rescheduled show Wednesdays at 10 p.m. until January 2008, at which point it will be non-stop Lost until May.

#12. Posted by: James at March 24, 2007 10:12 AM

My biggest complaint is not the hiatus but the new time slot. Now that Lost plays from 10-11. I miss the preview for the next week's episode often because of the over-eager crack squad of local newscasters telling me they have American Idol updates at 11:00.

#13. Posted by: kilorooster at March 24, 2007 10:46 AM

I, for one, would vote for an uninterrupted season. It would be so worth waiting a couple of months to get the whole season, week after week, non-stop.

#14. Posted by: erinb at March 24, 2007 7:48 PM

I might be in the minority here, but I am NOT on board with the "24"-like uninterrupted season. I can't possibly wait that long between seasons. I'm sorry, but I hate waiting and I hate being patient. I think they'd lose even more momentum by making us forget all about the show for 7 months. I'd rather go back to the "some new, some old" format. The wait time between new eps is at least more bearable as long as you can get your fixins in. Plus, if my schedule prevents me from being able to be home one Wednesday night (which it did during the season premiere, with disastrous VCR-related consequences!) there's at least a small chance I won't be missing a new episode. I like the 10-11 time slot in the winter/spring because I don't have to tape "Lost" on one TV while reading the close-captionings of "Idol" on another.
To TPTB: PLEASE don't make us sit tight and chill for 7 whole months before tossing a little "LOST" bone our way. I'm like a little kid at Christmas, so I need some payoff sooner than that!

#15. Posted by: Trinity at March 25, 2007 11:09 PM

I'm all for year 'round Lost episodes. The characters don't need a break, come on! Think of how many episodes go by with barely any screen time - that could be there break!

Oh, and move it back to 9pm, or 8pm - even better! Am I right?!!!

#16. Posted by: meg at March 28, 2007 5:21 PM

I wouldn't mind moving the time back to 9 p.m., but 8 p.m. is too early for me...my daughter is too young to watch LOST but old enough to still be awake after 8 for a while. Just my point of view, though!

#17. Posted by: Alaïs_Longthought at March 28, 2007 11:38 PM

I don't care how they run the episodes just as long as the show comes back. I went through serious withdraw this winter during the too long break and don't mind the repeat episodes. I record them all on DVR just so I can go back and watch again when the show breaks for the season. You always see something you missed before. My best friends and I love this show and we are 31,36 and 37.

#18. Posted by: Heather O'Neal at April 11, 2007 11:11 PM

While the uninterrupted season sounds intreguing, I think the show will lose a lot of fans along the way #6 mentioned. It might just be too long.

Personally, I think it might be better to start in October and run until Thanksgiving. Put the show on hold until immediately after New Years. This results in about a 5 week break, which is okay for me--I don't get the time to watch much of anything during the holidays (except for Its a Wonderful Life, etc.) Knowing the show is back on so quickly keeps it fresh.

But I hate the 10 pm time slot. Our whole family watched as a family---this is the ONLY show where we did that (and live too). I could care less about the manufactured hitmakers of American Idol.

I just finished the season finale.

The first thing I wanted to see was if there would be a season four, and it looks like there is.

It would be a huge disappointment if there was no season four.

If the show were to end the way it did without another season, I would feel as if I were cannibalized by the folks who make the decisions to keep shows like LOST around.

If you are going to go down, then go down with a blaze of glory!!!

LOST is a really good television show. I know this is just one opinion of an individual, but if it weren't for a show like lost, the television would be just another piece of furniture in the house!

Hurley Rules!!! Thanks for saving the day!!!

This whole starting in January thing sucks! Why can't they just make an entire season like every other show out there?! Remember when a season actually went all the way through from October to May, without repeats or breaks? (Think hard... it was a loooong time ago!). BTW, they have already said that Lost is going to run for 7 seasons - its in the special features of the complete dvd set. (Originally, they scripted the show to be 3 seasons, but the huge success caused them to extend it, which also explains why some things seem to drag out so badly) So even if for some insane reason, ABC drops Lost, you know that NBC will descend on it to help boost their ratings. DO NOT START AFTER JAN. 1!!! DO NOT HAVE BREAKS! GIVE US A COMPLETE SEASON FOR ONCE! <3
