Lost: Acronyms, Naomi & Camping....Oh My!

A hodgepodge of fun things to expand upon this week. In this section, you're invited to post your favorite/new acronyms or anagrams (we all love these)...tell us who Naomi may be and what she may be up to...or tell us your version of the 'camping ghost story'. Scuzzlebutt references to be kept to a minimum!!

Great And Funny Review Again Mac!

You Are The King Of All Lost Episode Reviewers!

And of course, my new favorite forever more...
Anyone Notice The Picture?

Whatever they decide to do with this pilot Naomi person, I hope she's not Rose's daughter or a relative of some other Lostie. It would be better if she had casual coincidental contact with one or more of them in the past. Or was simply some random person sent by Penny. Not every new character introduced on the show needs to have a direct connection to a Lostaway!

I don't know who Naomi is, but I hope they never show her again and then kill her in a month from now

I don't know who I Hate Lost is, but I hope he never returns to this blog again!

#7. Posted by: BunnyLover at April 23, 2007 3:36 PM

HGAD - Holy Giant Acronym, Danny!

I think Naomi was sent by Penny but is connected to Desmond or Charlie (only because the actress is British).

Maybe she served in the Royal Scots Regiment with Desmond. Would they have helicopter pilots?

Or maybe she's just another Driveshaft groupie that Charlie knocked up, and now she can be the next pregnant guinea-pig. Juliet will publish an article in the island medical journal: "Hobbit fertility and morbidity with DOC BTC and AHA on HLIWSM”

DOC = Date of Conception
BTC = Before the Crash
AHA = After Heroin Addiction
HLIWSM = Hawaiian-Like Island With Smoke Monster

Great acronyms, and I don't want to get too far off topic or anything, but MY GAWD did ANYONE see the photo of the lady on the monk's desk? Anyone?

#9. Posted by: Can't Resist at April 23, 2007 3:57 PM

@ Can't Resist/#9: Thanks for the post. If you'd like to make a general comment (not related to Lost Question of the Week), feel free to on mac's blog for the weekly recap. From the content of your post, I'd read through all the posts before you mention ANTP?

#10. Posted by: Red...Neck...Man at April 23, 2007 4:22 PM

I'm sure Can't Resist was just trying to be funny, having read all the posts on mac's blog that asked the ANTP question. I have to admit though that there were a lot of people who kept the issue going on the other thread by joking about it, to the point where the jokes were almost more annoying than those who seriously asked the question. So maybe we can just agree to put a moratorium on bringing up the picture be it serious or a joke unless someone really has something new to add (such as a theory of how the monk and the oracle know each other).

Naomi = I Moan :P

#12. Posted by: shellbugg at April 23, 2007 7:30 PM

This acronym listing is AWESOME (that's not an acronym, I just like using my caps for effect). I often forget certain ones, so it's nice to know the most common variations aren't veiled shots at my writing ability ;) (MIASWWIF = Mac Is a Sucky Writer Who Isn't Funny).

#13. Posted by: mac at April 23, 2007 7:42 PM

How about SAW for Sawyer's Awesome Witticisms? Although I do like "Sawyerisms."

#14. Posted by: rhondab57 at April 23, 2007 7:44 PM

Gotta lay it down for my favorite suggestion that seems to be sticking (note: if that darn Nikki wouldn't have swallowed 111 lbs of dirt, Secret Embrace woulda truly taken off).

mac's question: What should we call Desmond's future flashes?

my response: DESMONITIONS!!

That's just how I roll......

#15. Posted by: Red...Neck...Man at April 23, 2007 8:13 PM

I vote for Des-monitions, too.
That "Desmond flashes" stuff is just a little too male-menopausy.
As for Naomi, I think it's fine if she's closely related to someone--because that's what the island does, right? Like Locke's dad, Eko's brother...Relative of Rose (RofR) sounds about right to me.

JACOB = Just A Crazy OLD Bloke

#17. Posted by: lostifgreat at April 24, 2007 9:12 AM

Here are some of my favourite anagrams (of which most have - of course - not been officially confirmed by the producers, but what the hell, that is true for about 99 % of what we´re discussing here):
- Ethan Rom = Other Man
- Henry Gale, Minnesota = See an other man lying
- Gary Troup = Purgatory
- Anthony Cooper + Adam Seward = Sawyer the con man, a poor dad
- Mittelos = Lost time or Timeslot
- Richard Alpert = trap rare child
- Herarat Aviation = Earth, a variation
- Herarat = Earhart

I'm suffering from Acro-numbness...

How the heck are we supposed to remember all these words formed from the inital letter or letters of each of the successive parts or major parts of a compound term?

#33. Posted by: davidrh at April 26, 2007 8:52 AM

what the hell means
"where gonna need a bigger boat"?

i really wanna know right now!

#34. Posted by: luuk at April 26, 2007 9:28 AM

I was always a fan of referring to Ben as 'Benry Gale' haha, but my favourite acronym has to be CBS 'Cue backstory swoosh'!!!

#35. Posted by: Naz at April 26, 2007 9:29 AM

SAWYER= Silly, Annoying Witicisms Yield Everyone Ridicule

KATE= Kindly Albeit Terrifying Escapee

JACK= Jealousy Adds to Character's Kinkiness

LOCKE= Lonely, Ostracized Cop Killer Exonerated

HURLEY= Hilarious, Ubiquitous, and Riley Latino Everyone Yuks at.

JIN= Juicy Island Nipples? (can't think of anything better than that, I guess)

SUN= Sexy, Understated Nuances

EKO= Erroneously Killed Off

DESMOND= Deboinaire, Erotic Scotsman Marooned On Netherworld Desolation

CHARLIE= Chronic Heroin Addict Reduced to Life In Exile

And, I'm out.....for now ;)

#36. Posted by: Trinity at April 26, 2007 11:00 AM

WGNABB -or- "We're Going to Need a Bigger Boat" is actually a line from the movie "JAWS". It was referenced on the board in season one, and people just keep using it. I think it may have been one of the original Acronymns used here.

#37. Posted by: sarah c at April 26, 2007 11:02 AM

We're Gonna Need A New Sub (as spoken by Benry).

#38. Posted by: James at April 26, 2007 11:40 AM

adding to Trinity's List:

Juliette - Just Using Lostaways In Exercise To Trek Elsewhere

#39. Posted by: trexl at April 26, 2007 12:11 PM

@sarah c

thanks! i was getting pissed by the fact that every body talked about something i had no idea off!

#40. Posted by: luuk at April 26, 2007 5:16 PM

I'm nowhere near as creative as Trinity...but what about:

BEEB = Bug-EyEd Ben

#41. Posted by: Alaïs_Longthought at April 26, 2007 11:32 PM

ICHFM = i come here for Mac

#42. Posted by: Lily at April 27, 2007 7:00 PM

Jack is really becoming a jerk, makes Sawyer look better and better. But my favorite is still Sayed

#43. Posted by: jean clad at April 28, 2007 4:35 PM

Add one more to my list of character name acronyms:
BEN= Bug-Eyed Narcissist

#44. Posted by: Trinity at April 28, 2007 10:17 PM

@luuk/40 - Actually, you can Google a lot of the terms - "We're gonna need a bigger boat" gets several hits that explain it.

#45. Posted by: hurling at April 29, 2007 12:05 AM

SS = Steve/Scott
TGIF = Toes Grow in Fours

(Original idea for TGIF was by RNM and I shamelessly stole it.)

#46. Posted by: BunnyLover at May 4, 2007 5:23 PM

I loved MIF (meg is first). Great humor there, girl!

I also like Trinity's EKO - erroneously killed off.

Let's not forget:
IWAE - It was an escalator
BMOI - Big man on island
WMHAS - We might have a sub
WHAS - We have a sub
HBOs - Hillbilly others (not sure who came up with this one but I like it a lot)
TTWN - The test was negative
WTLTMG - What's the latest tally, Mr. Grimm?
TGHBRDSCPOUNH - I just made this one up. it means nothing.

All of them are great, but I have to go with mif - especially after all the crap she took for asking if she was the first to post. LMAO when I saw that, Meg :)> ;>) :)

JACOB = Just A Cloud Of Black

Can't wait for tonight's episode (5/9) to see if that's true. Knowing LOST, they'll drag the real identity out till next season... and I'll be there ready and waiting!!!

#49. Posted by: BunnyLover at May 9, 2007 4:40 PM

The whole lost show is based on a 1930's film by Frank Capra called Lost Horizon. The movie is one of the film movies of all time and deals with humanity and a finding your own shangri-la which means paradise. Everything on the lost show is based on this movie, even the title is similar. Check the movie out.

  1. If your post contains spoilers -- or even hints at spoilers -- add ***** SPOILERS ***** to the top of your comment.
  2. Your post will NOT immediately show up if you post any URLs. Because of ongoing spam issues, I need to manually approve comments that include links. This sucks, but it's the only solution at this time.
  3. Super-long URLs screw up the page. If you post one of these, people will get very angry at you and really, no one wants that. The solution is easy. Go to and create a mini URL.
  4. Do not post under multiple identities and then have inane conversations with yourself. This kind of nonsense will get you banned from the blog.
  5. Do not post in ALL CAPS FOR YOUR ENTIRE POST. In netiquette, all caps suggests you're screaming. In etiquette, it's lame. All-caps posts will be deleted.
  6. Please scan through previous posts to see if someone has already addressed your theory or comment.
