"Lost" to End After Two More Seasons?

According to E! Online, "Lost" may only have two seasons left (season four and season five).

ABC hasn't made an announcement, but it's believed the end date will become official sometime in mid-May. (As I've said before, I think this is a great idea that could elevate the show to new heights).

In other "Lost" news, E! Online also reports that "Lost's" fourth season will likely begin in January 2008 and run consecutively though May (a la "24"). The show may come back at an earlier time slot, which is great because this 10 p.m. business is ridiculous.

Lots more information is available here and here. -- mac

Only two more seasons... I'm so sad. (Am I first??? - just kidding!)

p.s. Sorry Meg

I think it is a brilliant idea to give an end date. This should insure relevant plot developments with a clear goal in sight.

I think it's about the right time frame to plan for - much longer and it would feel too dragged out.

J. Michael Stracynski did the same with Babylon-5, and it worked fairly well there. Of c ourse he announced the 5 year arc from the beginning.

Part of me wants it to go on forever...but if we're gonna get character and plot resolutions (which we want) and characters are gonna die (okay, some of that we want too!) it can't go on forever unless they keep shipping in newbies and turn it into a tropical ER.

Thanks for planning to end on a strong note and not limp on forever and ever.

I agree that a definite endpoint is a good idea to keep the series from dribbling away into idiocy...but I'm sad to think that we have only two more years as a LOST community here!

what about the Lost spin-off's like The Hurley Show with special guests ?

Lost spin-offs!

"The Long Con" starring Sawyer and Kate as bickering couple always trying to swindle each other

"Jarrah" starring Sayid as the 21st century MacGyver, fixing sat phones and looking for his lost love

“Burke’s Anatomy” starring Juliet as a whiny intern and Jack as a hot, but annoying, surgeon (McEgo, McJerk, McArrogant)

“Kung Fu 2” starring Jin as Kwai Chang Caine (if Sun would shave her head, she could be Grasshopper)

“Fantasy Lost Island” starring Richard Alpert as Mr. Rourke, Charlie as Tattoo, and the Magic Box playing itself

#8...funny stuff Clementine!

The end of the show after 5 seasons is good for the actors too. If they see a light at the end of the tunnel and know they won't be 'stuck' on the show forever then they are more likely to stay until the end. Harold Perrineau (Michael!) might even agree to come back until the show ends...or at least until they finish what they want to with his character.

Win win for everyone! Except the network maybe...but it makes room for other fresh and new Carlton/Cuse productions.

And I'm VERY happy about the January start with no re-runs once it begins. I'll have no problem waiting and letting the anticipation build.

How embarrassing...

I meant that it will make room for other fresh and new Lindelof/Cuse productions.

Time for bed...

#10. Posted by: JoePike at May 5, 2007 12:48 AM

This is really old news.

I seem to remember the 5-year arc (or at least the idea of that being the optimal series length) being mentioned by the producers quite awhile ago in another article.

Good news. Just in case anyone is thinking this is a bad idea, I have two words for you. Okay a letter and a word...
X-Files

Each and every "serialized drama" should have a definite end date. Let's see if "Prison Break", "Jericho", and "Heroes" take the hint.

#12. Posted by: Jeff at May 5, 2007 7:49 AM

I agree, this is good news. I REALLY hope Prison Break takes the hint. I'm almost afraid to watch the next season after the way they ended the second one.

**POSSIBLE SPOILER FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIVE UNDER A ROCK AND HAVENT SEEN THE END OF PRISON BREAK SEASON 2**

If they spend the majority of Season 3 with Michael breaking out of yet ANOTHER prison I think it'll be shark-jumping time. They need to focus on bringing down the government conspiracy all the way to the top, get the money back, and let everyone live happily ever after. If it goes into a fourth season I'll cry.

ANYWAY. Back to the topic at hand: LOST. This can only be a good thing because it will allow the writers to map out when they're going to give us all the answers and they won't have to keep writing these 'filler' episodes to just drag everything out. They will be able to structure everything a lot more definitively. My only concern is that they'll introduce too many new mysteries in season 4, and season 5 will have to wrap a lot of things up too abruptly, and leave a lot of the season 1-2 mysteries unanswered. I hope this isn't the case, but only time will tell.

#13. Posted by: Jay at May 5, 2007 8:16 AM

@Zizzy: The producers first discussed this in January, but at that time ABC was noncommittal. This latest development suggests that the five-year cut off will actually happen -- that's a huge development.

#14. Posted by: mac at May 5, 2007 8:24 AM

Five years is a good stopping point and gives the writers a fair shot at an endgame. If the show went on and on (like Star Trek) for 20 years, we'd see the characters get old in the pre-island flashbacks!

#15. Posted by: catbarf at May 5, 2007 6:00 PM

Yay indeed for 5 seasons! Giving the show an end date will surely sparkle creativeness :). Restrictions are what make true creativity grow, me thinks.

lol @ #8/Clementine.
How about a series about the 'under-wath-errr life in the cor-uhl weeefs suwwounding dee is-luhnd' with 'Jacques-Yves' Rousseau ;-). With a season finale showing her going dynamite fishing with Jin (and us going 'aaaaah, THAT'S where she needed the box of dynamite for!).

Or a re-make of the carebears, with the POLAR BEAR as a new character.

Completely off topic (sorry 'bout that):

I only wish 'Dead Like Me' (a favorite show of mine) had been given that many seasons. Unfortunately, they pulled it out of the air after a great season 2 :(. Blugh!

I love Sawyer, do any of you and I also want to know if any of you think they will kill him off or not.

@BunnyLover ;) lol I'll forgive you this time, but remember...MIF!!!

I am relieved as well that there is an end date. There needs to be some sense of satisfaction or completion to this. The story needs to come full circle. I have never even watched the X-Files. Although I'm sure I'd love it, hearing how I didn't really end with anything solved ruins it for me.

#20. Posted by: meg...MIF at May 6, 2007 2:36 PM

Don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but the five-season time frame also lines up with Sun's projected death, and if Season Five is the abbreviated affair they've suggested it might be, that would put her supposed death even closer to the series finale, possibly making it a major plot line for the remainder of the series.

#21. Posted by: James at May 6, 2007 5:55 PM

So how bout they finish with Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Locke, Des & all the rest in 2010...THEN....they begin a new "Lost" related to this series but different setting, characters but similar themes...could be cool. Maybe like a desert setting, arctic or space setting? Hmm possibilities. You can't tell me that Dharma aint got more research areas in the world. Or not in this world. If it's even Dharma & not Ben & his cronies! Fuggin hell I love this show.
Kate.

further about either. By the annual exportation of silver to the skinny default layouts for myspace brought money into the country, it was said, nor carried any out

#23. Posted by: Faith at March 30, 2008 4:56 AM

best quality, which, before it is coined, is seldom worth seven-pence in silver. But as, by the free scrapbooking layouts for photoshop the greater part of payments could in either case be made with the same fvwrjutois
