Lost Season 4: New Day, New Time and Back Sooner than Expected

Those nasty rumors about an April return for "Lost" aren't true. According to E!, "Lost" will return Thurs., Jan. 31 at 9 p.m.

Let that sink in ... "Lost" ... January ... on a new night ... at a new (earlier!) time.

Speaking of change ... the new day/time coupled with my own life changes means I'll need to tweak the posting schedule for my "Lost" reviews. I'm leaning toward a quickie recap posted the night of a new broadcast and then a longer review posted on Saturday. It's not ideal, I know, but I want everyone to be able to discuss without waiting for me to set up a new episode post.

Posted by Mac Slocum on December 14, 2007 8:45 PM |

I can't believe it's coming back sooner! Awesome! And I'd be totally on board with the quickie review to precede the full length one. Since I don't have net access at work anymore, it'd be much easier to read a short review on my lunch hour and then to enjoy the complete one uninterrupted on Saturday. In a way, this arrangement is even better than the old one!
It's been a long 7 months, and the next month and a half will probably feel just as long or longer. We've all missed our weekly dose of Mac-isms.

As the Samurai Say at Rodeos

It's like Christmas in December ! ;)

#2. Posted by: trexl at December 15, 2007 1:48 AM

I absolutely love the fact it is coming back in Jan. But the day it is on isn't good for me. I work third shift and have to leave the house at nine. DVR works but nothing is like watching it at the time it comes on.

Thanks for the best news I've heard all month! I'll add another YEE-HAH!

#4. Posted by: mrsdobalena at December 15, 2007 6:57 AM

Did you also see that only 8 episodes are completed due to the dumb strike?? I am starting to get a little discouraged...

#5. Posted by: moehabba at December 15, 2007 3:31 PM

The January 31 return is awesome news!
After all this waiting, it'll be a shame if it ends up only being an 8 week mini-season due to the strike.

As for mac's much anticipated recaps, I agree that putting up a quick summary in order to get the discussions started right away is a good idea. I'm sure we'll all be chomping at the bit on Saturdays waiting for the key points - that's become every much a part of our weekly LOST experience as the episodes themselves.

Tomorrow (Sunday)I'll post the next photo caption - and I'll update the Season Four Countdown timer!

#6. Posted by: vacc at December 15, 2007 7:39 PM

whoa... LOST is only coming back 6 days sooner, not a whole month. Smart move - they are guaranteed to go up against rerun CSI (Vegas) and rerun - The Office. They aren't facing the American Idol juggernaut again. Kicking-off in January will give them a running (head) start at February Sweeps. So, instead of trying to kick off S4 in week 1 of sweeps, they get to aire S4E2 - 3 - 4 - 5 all thru Feb. Even if they don't get new scripts until the end of February, that still gives them a month to shoot/produce S4E9, etc...

for those of you who do not know, previews for Lost season 4 are airing in theaters and will SOON be on tv. There has been a rumor about Mike returning to the island, but not Walt.
Thanks for reading.

Sounds great Mac, we'll take the quickie recap in anticipation of the longie recap on Saturday.

And I also hope we get more than just 8 eps this season...but sounds like if we do they'll be split with a big break in the middle. Oh well, we're used to that now, right!?!

#10. Posted by: JoePike at December 17, 2007 3:34 PM

"And I also hope we get more than just 8 eps this season...but sounds like if we do they'll be split with a big break in the middle. Oh well, we're used to that now, right!?!"

I know! Ironic, isn't it? The purpose was to air all 16 eps in one long stretch with no breaks or repeats. And, look where we are!

#11. Posted by: Trinity at December 17, 2007 7:07 PM

Yeah, commercials ran during ABC's "The Duel" last night saying Lost returns Jan 31, but without the time. Glad it's 9 and not 8 so it doesn't go up agains Survivor when that returns.

#12. Posted by: Cecil Rose at December 18, 2007 12:16 PM

On the new schedule - hope you do better with the two review format than I've been doing on "House" so far this season. My first runs too long and freqently interferes with ever getting a second up.

Oh, well, at least the work-project schedule seems to be approaching sanity again, so maybe I'll have more time.

The following URL will take you to a countdown timer for the newly announched "Lost" resumption.

Ethan: "Claire, you won't believe this!!"

Claire: "What is it Dr. Rom?"

Ethan: "This sonogram has shown me that you have a count-down timer in your belly.....and your devil baby, I mean baby is due in 44 days 8 hours 28 minutes and 55 seconds!"

Claire: "That's hilarious...let's both laugh out loud uncontrollably."

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand scene. Cut. Print.

It IS true - wahoo!!! I even HEARD the TV trailer (and the restart date of 1/31) last night on TV. Didn't actually see the trialer, just heard it from another room. Hubby was watching house adn I came rushing in after I heard, but missed seeing the promo. But, I did, in fact, hear it with my own ears on ABC. Yea!

#17. Posted by: GatorGal at December 19, 2007 8:27 AM

Gator Gal:

I don't think you heard the promo on "House" (Fox). More likely the husband was sneaking a peek at ABC's "Duel". That's where I saw the promo.

And last night there was an even more extended promotion, full of fast flashes - I've got to catch it on DVD so I can parse the pictures individually - I think we *might* have seen a clear shot of Jacob.

(Shameless plug) Invite hubby to drop by the TVFodder "House" blog, written by (ahem) yours truely. (/Shameless plug).

Anyone get through the S3 DVD's yet? I spent a good 3 hours last night scouring the bonus DVD for easter eggs. Lemme tell you: it is chock full of 'em!!

#19. Posted by: Trinity at December 19, 2007 8:33 PM

Wanna see some S-4 promos?

Type "Lost Season 4" into the YouTube search engine and you get a ton of hits. Some are official promo clips for season 4, some are fan made and as good as the real one, and some are, well, ... interesting.

In particular, look at the clips starting four down for some really creative fan fiction - done with captioned stills, they present a really coherent plot for the first three episodes that explain a lot of the series really well. I'm impressed. I hope the real writers do half as well. As far as I can tell, there's been no ep 3 part 3 posted yet.

Just copy the whole thing en-masse, and change all the asterisks to periods for real links.

I'm taking the S-3 DVD's real slow to make them last (til 1/31/08?). And trying to get back on my Haiku thing to catch up to real-time by the time the new season begins.

Here's a list fo some S-3 Easter Eggs - if you don't consider this cheating.

Congrats to Trinity's Juicy Island Nipples for first place in the Mac's Lost Blog Fantasy Football League!
(yours truly took third--not bad!)

Anyone see anything about the Losties getting off the island this year? I heard something but didn't get the whole story...arghhhh...the teasing begins! Guess I have to open my S3 DVD's I got for Christmas to get me through as my anticipation rises. I can't wait!

#22. Posted by: Crispy Seaplanes at December 26, 2007 9:39 AM

Thanks, Crispy! It was quite a struggle getting to the top and staying there, but Cutler's final interception sealed the deal for me in not 1, but 2 leagues! Thanks to RNM for making it a challenging (albeit nerve-wracking) game and congrats to you, too! You're right, 3rd place out of 12 is not too shabby at all. Plus, you get the little bronze trophy in your fantasy profile trophy case.
Now how about ending this writers' strike so we can at least get some spoilers on the final 8 eps!

ABC is now promoting a "Lost Special" -i.e. clip show - to precede the first new S-4 show at 8:00 EST/7:00 CST. Should we decrement out counters by one hour?

OK, so I'm watching all the promos for the upcoming 8 episode season . . And on the final picture of the island, there appears to be a modern stateside city in the water's reflection....Has it always been that way? Have I not noticed it before?

BTW: Happy New Year Friends.

Gator gal, Bunnylover,

My email is alabama(at)

Email me and we'll work out the details for the S-4 party. Anybody else in driving distance of Raleigh wants in on this mail us there, too! Come one, come all.

On lost*abc*com there's a clip 'Catch up on Lost' A very fast talking recap of the first 3 seasons in 8 minutes. A whirlwind recap - probably touching everything relevant.

#28. Posted by: mtncbn at January 2, 2008 2:19 AM

This is way easyer for the 8 minute recap!

#29. Posted by: mtncbn at January 2, 2008 2:31 AM

Hey everyone, my Entertainment Weekly arrived today, with Mr. Fox on the cover and an interview with him inside. He reveals some information (including his take on Jack asking for someone to check how drunk his father is in the finale) that some might consider spoilerish, but it was a fun read and definately helps wet the appetite for the return of the greatest show on television (even if only for 8 weeks...for now!).

#30. Posted by: FenwayBen at January 5, 2008 6:39 PM

Check out ABC's Lost page - clip after clip will play, including trailers for S4, orientation film for the Orchid station, etc.

I just realized that I will be on a plane next Thursday night and won't see the new episode until Sunday night when I get home.

I hope I'm conducting "anxiety driven - intensely riveting" music . . .", because that's what those folks are getting this weekend!!!

Whether they want it or not.

I am so . . . lost . . .

#32. Posted by: davidrh at January 24, 2008 8:51 AM

Here's what the critics are saying. This just made me so much more excited for the new season!

The first four episodes of the fourth season have been seen by TV Guide, who described them as "worth the wait", "emotionally satisfying" and stated that they "provide gaspworthy plot twists that should whip fans into a theory-spinning tizzy."[23] The episode has been advanced reviewed by UGO, who gave the episode an "A+", calling it "a crushingly emotional, action packed introduction… [which proves] that… Lost's groundbreaking protean form still has plenty of blinding ways to dazzle and entertain in a way that is nonetheless unique unto itself."[24]

ABC just sent out an announcement that

"Watch a special enhanced version of last season's finale Wednesday @ 9/8c"

#34. Posted by: Cecil Rose at January 28, 2008 11:16 AM

#34: Enhanced? It was really annoying. I hope they don't stick with VH1-style pop ups for S4. Some of us would like to continue to look for clues and didn't appreciate the random subtitles.

  1. If your post contains spoilers -- or even hints at spoilers -- add ***** SPOILERS ***** to the top of your comment.
  2. Your post will NOT immediately show up if you post any URLs. Because of ongoing spam issues, I need to manually approve comments that include links. This sucks, but it's the only solution at this time.
  3. Super-long URLs screw up the page. If you post one of these, people will get very angry at you and really, no one wants that. The solution is easy. Go to and create a mini URL.
  4. Do not post under multiple identities and then have inane conversations with yourself. This kind of nonsense will get you banned from the blog.
  5. Do not post in ALL CAPS FOR YOUR ENTIRE POST. In netiquette, all caps suggests you're screaming. In etiquette, it's lame. All-caps posts will be deleted.
  6. Please scan through previous posts to see if someone has already addressed your theory or comment.
