Lost: Off-Season Discussion

We're stuck in "Lost" purgatory for the next few months, but there's still plenty of conjecture and conversation to be had. Feel free to use this post's comments area to discuss any and all "Lost"-related news, rumors and theories. -- Mac

This sounds like an untrue rumor to me, but has anyone heard anything about a seven-episode Lost "pre-season" to be aired late in the summer? A friend told me a friend of his had read about this somewhere. I don't believe it, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has heard or read this rumor.

#1. Posted by: James at June 7, 2006 10:36 PM

I haven't heard anything about a pre-season, but the producers have announced that the first six (or seven? I can't remember) episodes will air in season three and the show will then go on hiatus for about 12 weeks. Maybe this six/seven-episode chunk is what your friend is referring to? -- Mac

#2. Posted by: mac at June 7, 2006 10:47 PM

Thanks for the forum, Mac. And for the past two years. Can't say it enough: thank you.

Yeah, that schedule for next season is painful, but starting with episode 8 we'll have a good run.

Anyway, this week's LOST rerun featured yet another Hanso commercial. This one leads you to a site ( that delves into the cognitive capabilities of yellow labs, as detailed by a fellow named Vincent (go figure). So THIS is how they're going to get us to watch reruns this summer!

#3. Posted by: KG at June 7, 2006 10:53 PM

Oh, and I'll give a nickel to whoever can explain what exactly is wrong with Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bolé's face. I can see this is going to be a long summer...

#4. Posted by: KG at June 7, 2006 10:58 PM

@mac: yeah, I was thinking of the weird season schedule when my friend mentioned that, although at that point I'm not sure the initial number of episodes before the break had been announced. I'm not looking forward to the midseason break, but on the bright side, it probably means we get two season finales this time around!

#5. Posted by: James at June 7, 2006 11:10 PM

So does this mean that they will be showing the second season over again during the summer?

#6. Posted by: Josh at June 7, 2006 11:21 PM

your myspace needs some work mac!

#7. Posted by: Laura at June 8, 2006 12:59 AM

Ahh yes, Myspace. I played around with it to see what all the buzz was about. Clearly, I'm getting old, because it just doesn't light my fire ;)

ha ha i tried to add you as friend then i saw you hadn't been on in awhile. that place is much more fun when you're single lol

#9. Posted by: Laura at June 8, 2006 1:24 AM

Wednesday night before the Lost show during Freddie, there was a short "public service message" from the "Hanso Foundation". Tonight's URL was which had some REALLY interesting and revealing information. Pretty much explains what was going on at the island and also explains what the "incident" was (sort of). Here's the interesting text from the web site, but there's other stuff that of interest too, so check out the site as well.

"HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION -- The Foundation was created in 1960 to facilitate a better society through Genetic Engineering and Cloning. Phase 1 of the project was set to begin on a remote Island off the coast of Australia. The project was abruptly cancelled when strange things began to occur at the test site. In an effort to salvage the project a team of scientists were set to conduct remote viewing experiments in an isolated bunker. They failed. In 1970 Dharma Industries (DI) was formed to oversee all activities associated with the human genetic engineer project, genetic engineering, DNA clone restructuring and the science of human cloning. After a series of mysterious deaths, DI was shut down and the human cloning project abruptly cancelled. Five years following the dissolution of the Foundation it was discovered that a team of genetic researchers had survived and were still living and conducting cloning experiments on the island."

Ah ha! I say that the Michael that shot Ana and Libby was a CLONE and the boy that was on the boat in the finale was a clone too! That's how the writers could explain the actor's growth spirt! He's a Clone with hormones gone bad! Hum, I wonder if Ana and Libby and Boone and Boone's sister were all clones? Maybe Libby's not really dead and Hurly will actually finally get some eventually...? Maybe with a with a Libby Clone, but he probably won't care.

And here's another thought. You know how Faux Henry Gale and a few of the Others refer to themselves as "the good ones". Maybe what this means is that sometimes when the make a clone there are "good ones", and other times there are "bad ones". I'm going to say that all of the "Others" we've seen so far on the Island are clones. The crazy French lady is probably the only person that isn't a clone. Well, and maybe Desmond.

There is a statement in the History of the Foundation about the remote viewing bunker which is interesting. Since the Perl appeared to be the center of all the "experiments" and the place that all of the viewing took place and what they were referring to. But, it would seem that this was bogus since all of the Pneumatic tubes just went to a huge pile in the middle of no where. Maybe there is yet another "viewing" place - maybe where the clones are made - that is where even the "viewers" are viewees. Maybe they were watching clones watching clones. Send in the clones! I heard that one of the clones had a really filthy mouth and was always saying off-color things about the other clones. Unfortunately, one day he was walking in the jungle with one of the scientists, when the scientist just couldn't take the verbal diatribe anymore and pushed the clone into an open Hatch door and the clone was killed. In the public announcement regarding the Incident, the Dharma Initiative reported simply that, "A scientist had made an obscene clone fall." ;-)

Okay, so looking back, it looks like I don't know how to spell or type. The URL I typed in isn't exactly what was listed on the PSA. The real URL is: which is a whole lot more boring then the first one I found. Anyway, so maybe all of my theories above are totally off base since the (bogus site) is probably just a fake. None the less, I still like my theory about the Clones. Hurly needs to get laid whether its with the real Libby of the Clone Libby...

#10. Posted by: Mattster at June 8, 2006 3:23 AM

Ok, went back and rewatched the season finale. Still saw no evidence of the smoke monster (frame by frame in some cases), unless the 'smoke on the beach' was actually smokey. If thats the case, then it had to be working in conjunction with the Others to mislead the Losties.

Item of interest number two:
The Tazers, or whatever they are, being held by the Others on the Pala Ferry dock. I believe they are in fact Tazers. When watching the ambush over again, Sawyer gets tagged on the neck, then goes down flailing, like a nervous system hit. Same thing with Kate, when shes on the ground, she writhes uncontrollably, similar to an electric shock. Fine and good, that it fits into the story, but we hadn't seen any evidence of this type of technology with the Others previously. The depth of their weapons arsenal and how it gets resupplied could be an interesting topic down the road.

This is a diary entry I haven't read before.

#12. Posted by: DW at June 8, 2006 9:12 AM

Ok, signed up for the newsletter on Retrievers of Truth. Got this emai:

You're about to enter...

First let's start this by saying, "thank you."

There's a word into which dreams can come true. This email is your gateway to that word and more that will open your mind and your consciousness.

Imagine a field - a field of yellow... yellow labs running free, playful, and enjoying each other's company. But in their hearts they are not complete. They miss an integral part of their being and the thing that makes their existence complete. That one thing is the "word"
for which we all search - mankind and labkind.

But first a story.

I was checking into a hotel and a dapper porter escorts me to my room.
As we're going up the elevator in total silence I decide to ask him his name. He replies, "Mandrake Wig" and immediately starts to explain the odd name, his German ancestry, and his mother's preoccupation with botany. He ends the story by saying, "my friends just call me Manny."

We continue talking about our lives, hopes, and dreams as I'm getting settled in my room. When he's done I offer a generous tip but he refuses saying, "Let me give you a tip, a single word that will enrich your life, as it has mine." I accept.

The next day I go to the front desk to leave a tip for Manny. They tell me no such person works there. I question everyone with no luck. I think about what he told me and write down his name so I don't forget it. As I write I see something in the letters. I rearrange a few and create the words, "waking dream."

The word he gave me that day was - YOU.

Yours truly, Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bole

YOU! is what Des said to Jack the first time he saw him in the hatch.

YOU! is what Jack said to Des when he saw him in the boat in the Season finale.

Vincent 'Wally' Bole is interesting in that it has the dogs name, and also a form of Walts name. Not sure what the Bole implys, but all together they are probably an Anagram.

Also, the anagram in the 'story' is Waking Dream. Interesting.

Couldn't find any easter eggs on the site, for Flash videos or the like.

#13. Posted by: Mike at June 8, 2006 9:41 AM

Futher notes:
Wikipedia defines one version of Bole as:

bole (botany), that part of the trunk of a tree beneath the point where branching commences.

#14. Posted by: Mike at June 8, 2006 9:51 AM

Wally Bole is an anagram for 'Yellow Lab', which is mentioned in the post. Is Vincent a yellow lab (I stink at dog breeds).....

#15. Posted by: Fred at June 8, 2006 1:35 PM

Ok so has anyone been following the Sprite ads. Now they are all over TV pointing to And there's an ad running on (if you don't see it on the right, keep refreshing) When you go to you have to enter a password, which is flashed at you, belly. You enter "Belly" and the next page says YouTube: Sumo and "When things slow down you see more" I'm assuming they want you to watch the video ( to pick up clues. Has anyone done this already?

#16. Posted by: Mary at June 8, 2006 3:24 PM

Hey! Ihave a question. What is Lost really all about. I mean I've been reading this blog for the past two years and i cant figure what is hapening in this show?

I live in Australia so I dont get to see any parts of the show.

Could you guys give me some feed back on what is really hapening!?

#17. Posted by: Stephy at June 8, 2006 5:27 PM

Stephy: They're all in purgatory ...

Or maybe they're in an experiment ...

Or maybe the world ended ...

Or maybe it's a dream ...

Honestly, no one knows!

#18. Posted by: mac at June 8, 2006 7:08 PM

Vincent "Wally" Bole isn't much of an anagram.

You get Vincent Yellow Lab if you rearrange the letters.

BUT... if you just use Vincent Bole, you get the words "Bile Convent". Maybe this means that all the people on the island are runaways from a unisex monastery and suffer from excessive upchucking.

#28. Posted by: mac at June 9, 2006 3:28 PM

Mary, I don't think that site has anything to do with Lost. I wasted a lot of time there and it was all about Sprite. It was kind of cool though.

#29. Posted by: David at June 9, 2006 4:48 PM

Ok, on one of the comercials with the Hanso corporation it said on the way bottom of the screen when you go there you learn about how there was a weird desease that went around a remote island off the coast of Australia and that there were a few scientists that remained there in order to conduct cloning experiments with people that live in isolated bunkers. This makes me believe that "Walt" that got away with Michael is the real walt. I also think that they are going to clone Kate, Sawyer, and Jack and send them back to the losties. Also, what if Clair is a clone?!?!?!?! Visit the web site! and during the re-runs watch for the commercials.

#30. Posted by: Alyssa at June 9, 2006 5:25 PM

In the sublymonal ad on look at the chameleon towards the end in slow motion. On the chameleon it says "code: bentley" but i don't know what to do with that. so if anybody does let me know.

#31. Posted by: Ryan at June 9, 2006 8:11 PM

Did anyone else catch the end credits for Mission Impossible III?

The very last thing listed at the end of the credits and lists of people/companies thanked is The Hanso Foundation. Mmmmmm......

#32. Posted by: Chris at June 9, 2006 11:45 PM

I know that there are a lot of rumors these days, but I heard an interesting one today. Has anyone heard that the show's final finale could be a first time, epic movie theater experience? That would be awesome, and would undoubtedly make a lot of money for the show.

#33. Posted by: ryan at June 10, 2006 1:37 AM

I don't think Clair is a clone. Clones aren't born fully grown. But, maybe her baby will look familiar?!?

#34. Posted by: DW at June 10, 2006 10:09 AM

The X-Files ended as a movie. So did Firefly with Serenity.

#35. Posted by: David at June 10, 2006 4:03 PM

Was there a second X-files movie?

#36. Posted by: James at June 10, 2006 6:16 PM

Nope. A second "X-files" movie is supposedly in development, but nothing is solid yet.

Unfortunately, "The X-Files" ended with two lackluster seasons. "Firefly," however, went out with a phenonemal bang with "Serenity." I cannot recommend that series or the movie enough -- absolutely stunning. -- Mac

#37. Posted by: mac at June 10, 2006 7:13 PM

X-files ended as a two hour series finale...and I think a new X-files movie is close to being concrete....but who knows with all the rumours from the past few years. Sometimes waiting for the second X-files movie is like waiting for Cupid or SPots Night to come back on ABC.

And as for the Clair clone theory- it actually sounds pretty sound. It would make sense with her memory loss after she was abducted by Ethan Rom. AI don't think it's much of an issue that Clair is fully grown because I'd imagine those crazy island scientists would find a way to manipulate cell growth to a person's age.

#38. Posted by: Phil at June 11, 2006 10:43 AM

i recently watched season 1 again after the lost season 2 finale. And the only thought i have in that Jack's dad is definately still alive. Where could his body have gone...
And now I have Eko's recent flashback's to back up my theory. You know, about the girl that died and came back to life hours.... days later. Im not sure if he's exactly in w/ the Hanso folk. But im sure we will learn about him from more flashback's other than Jacks.

Glad I can still post my spurratic thoughts... about 3 months left to go!!!!

#39. Posted by: middies at June 11, 2006 3:15 PM

That theory about jack's dad is actually very legit, I don't doubt that he is still alive, there is considerable evidence more from season two than one though. This might of happened to him before even, if it didn't, than why would he need a body guard? It's a stretch but hey, it's lost isn't it?

And I was wondering if anyone had any theries manly pertaining to the island after the season finale. Mine is that they're in some kind of eternal Artic bubble. Reasons reasons for this is the code for the dharma, "what did one SNOWMAN say to the other?", apperently the enviroment that the (German team was it?) was in and the polar bears.

#40. Posted by: Tyler at June 11, 2006 7:03 PM

I've been checking out for stuff concerning the game lately. According to their site, that stuff about the cloning and scientists staying, etc. is actually a pile of bunk. That stuff is on retreivers Remember your spelling lessons: "I before E except after C." So if you spell retriever properly (and trust me, I'm having a hard time with it writing this) you'll get the dogs website. Reportedly, the other one is bogus. Sorry guys.

#41. Posted by: Mike at June 12, 2006 3:35 AM

So Dr Vincent Bole met Hanso in Rangoon. Which is a just a hop over from Thailand. Wonder if Jack was there around the same time Vincent was?

#42. Posted by: frodo74 at June 12, 2006 10:58 AM

Anyone have a torch making background?

What are they using to make those torches last so long?

#43. Posted by: Charlie Salinger at June 12, 2006 2:22 PM

This was just sent through the Hanso RSS feed. Typically this signals a new clue in the area of the Hanso site mentioned in the message...

The Hanso Foundation's Mental Health Appeal is a world-spanning system of clinics seeking revolutionary new treatments. It is nothing short of a crusade to rid us all of the spectre of debilitating illnesses that truly hold hostage the human race's drive to a better future.

#44. Posted by: LostNick at June 12, 2006 3:35 PM

Does anyone else think that Alvo Hanso and Henry Gale are the same person?

#45. Posted by: mynameisstolen at June 13, 2006 1:27 PM

>Anyone have a torch making background?

>What are they using to make those torches last so long?

>Posted by: Charlie Salinger

Well, in Scouts we made them by nailing a burlap bag around the end of a stick and soaking it in kerosene for about 12 hours. Burned pretty much like the ones you see on the show.

How anyone'd make them burn like that without petrochemicals, I don't know, unless they had a natural source. No tar-pits seen on the show, though.

#46. Posted by: Cecil at June 13, 2006 1:55 PM

anyone notice how weird the picture of dr. wally looks on the retrievers website?

#47. Posted by: it's all in the details at June 13, 2006 2:34 PM

Anyone know what the "ARZT" shirts mean? I understand all of the other ones, but not this one. Can anyone help!

Mac - you should sell a shirt with Mr. Eko's Jesus stick on it! That would be awesome!

#48. Posted by: MattR at June 13, 2006 3:57 PM

In the Exodus, after Artz is exploded by dynamite, a chunk of his flesh lands on Jack's shirt. So Hurley tactfully tells him that he has a piece of Arzt on him.

#49. Posted by: Emily at June 14, 2006 1:30 AM

In the first season finale, while the team is moving to the Black Rock through the forest, the same bird flies by close to Hurley, and urls the same "Hurleyyyyy" sound!
At that time Hurley just said: "Whoever named the place Dark Territory... good job" or something like that, so nobody actually paid attention.

So maybe the bird is a season finale regular!!!!

#50. Posted by: Rodomichael at June 14, 2006 6:50 AM

Hi Mac,

Thanks for giving us a place to post during the break.

I'd just like to say that I'm looking forward to the new episode line up for season 3. 6 episodes then a 3 month break followed by 17 episodes uninterrupted. The season starts in mid October, which will put the start of the break right around Thanksgiving, after which you have a slew of other holidays, then after the rush of holidays the 17 episode run starts. Some people I know are dreading the break, but I keep telling them that with the holidays and stuff the time will fly by. I'm a huge fan of "24" and one of the reasons I love the show is because they start their season in January and run it without repeats or interruptions right through to the end. They also throw in a couple of 2 hoour epsiodes in the middle of their season. The drawback thou is that there is a 7 month break between seasons. I like Lost's new schedule approach for next season.

#51. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at June 14, 2006 8:07 AM

I don't know how reliable the following information is but I was surfing Lostpedia and found some rumors for Season 3. Apparently the season premier will reveal who "He" is, meaning the leader of the others. Also I read that Locke, Ecko, and Desmond are not dead, the reason being that in season 3 we'll finally find out how Locke became paralyzed, the only way to see that flashback is if he's still alive, and if he survived then it only stands to reason that the other 2 did as well.

Any thoughts?

#52. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at June 14, 2006 8:11 AM

Unless Locke loosing the use of his legs have a tie-in to someone elses back story??? Remember Libby was dead and popped up in Desmonds back story.

#54. Posted by: Billie Joe at June 14, 2006 12:51 PM

Good point Kalico. It's possible, but something in my gut tells me all 3 will be back next season. Hell, if Charlie was able to walk out of there unscathed who's to say the other 3 won't either. However there is the possibility that they won't be the same when they emerge.

#55. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at June 14, 2006 1:22 PM

This is slightly off-topic as it doesn't relate to next season, but I thought I'd throw this out for the Arzt fans. Daniel Roebuck filmed this explosive Lost-related promo spot for a church in Nevada, and it's actually pretty funny. The other actor is Timothy E. Goodwin. They should give that guy a part on Lost. Frogurt anyone?

The video is here:

#56. Posted by: James at June 14, 2006 3:26 PM

Regarding the four toed statue. It looks like it is sitting on a pile of rubble, not a foundation. There's not enough of it there to rule out that it might be the foot of a lion or someother (some OTHER) animal. Maybe it was inland and got blown to the beach?

#57. Posted by: mtncbn at June 14, 2006 8:24 PM

Isn't anyone focusing on the clues anymore? This board has missed the last two clues that are now on the Hanso site.

Like this one...

The file names of the three "hole" images were: q9als2002.gif, t9agen75.gif and u8egnce86.gif. If you remove the file extensions and any number greater than 26 you get: q9als t9agen u8egnce
Replace letters for numbers and get: "qials tiagen uhegnce" which will spell "light sequence again"

Enter this on the Mental Health page on the Hanso site and viola!

There is another clue on the elecromagnetic page too.

Since I've been "lost" without my new episodes of LOST each week I have been rewatching season 1 again (and again!) to make sure there is absoltuely no possible way I've missed anything.

I've come up with a couple of conclusions/theories/thoughts:

~Is it just me or are the lostie survivors only children? (I'm excluding Boone & Shannon because they weren't blood related. Locke also because his foster siblings weren't blood related). It seems nobody has any siblings. Did anyone else notice this? Anyone think its important? Or going to be important?

~As I was rewatching "Solitary" I was reminded of the power cable along the beach. The one that led straight into the ocean. To me it seems like there is a power source under the water or that the power is flowing to something under the water. Hmm...maybe another hatch?

So what does everyone think?

This is something I noticed the week it happened but only bothered posting it now, sorry. When the lost episode with hurley and the numbers was aired in ireland, that same week the irish national lottery came out with these numbers
Saturday Nov 19, 2005
04 08 15 16 23 24

there is only one number difference, I thought it was a really bizzare thing at the time , It aired on the irish channel rte ,

#78. Posted by: pat at June 28, 2006 9:38 AM

Hi Lor,

I was reading your post - good observation on the "only child" trend on the show but there are two "losties" we know of that have siblings, Hurley has a brother and so does Rose. At least I think Rose has a brother - it may have been mentioned in season 2. Hurley definitely has a brother - he was shown in season 1 when Hurley was being interviewed after winning the lottery, I think he sadi his name was Diego. his wife ran off with a "waitress".

#79. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at June 28, 2006 11:21 AM

Lor & Mr Grimm

Ecko had a brother who is presumebly dead, but on this show who knows. Also remember Charlies's brother Liam.

#80. Posted by: DB IN BC at June 29, 2006 3:31 PM

Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bolé's face is messed-up because he has dog lips. I bet he also has four toes (like a dog and the statue). Am I correct that Bolé could be a word for container. Maybe Vincent is Wally's container, meaning he was part of some exotic DNA experiment to transfer the psychic ablities of dogs to humans.

#81. Posted by: Jim at June 29, 2006 3:44 PM

To DB in BC & Mr. Grimm,

Wow...I feel really, really, really stupid right now.How could I possiblely forget Yemi? Honestly! Okay so now I remember about Liam, Yemi, and Hurley's brother but I'm afraid I don't remember anything about Rose's brother. Could someone provide some details on him (if any are known).

Well what does everyone think about my underwater hatch theory? Or maybe its not a hatch: maybe its a power cable that runs to a nother unseen island. Hmm... So what is anyone's idea or theory about this?

#82. Posted by: Lor at June 29, 2006 8:43 PM

Watched the rerun of 'Abandoned' last night. It was interesting to see Rose tell Hurley (in the clothesline scene) that it must be the worst thing possible "to lose the only person you love on the island". She was talking about Shannon, but saying it to Hurley.

Almost certainly a coincidence and not foreshadowing, but interesting nonetheless.

#83. Posted by: Dave at June 29, 2006 11:15 PM

Hey DB,

Your right - I forgot about their brothers.

I like your theory about an underwater hatch - they must have been doing marine experiments (remember the shark in "Adrift" - it had a DHARMA logo on the underside of it's tail). So an underwater hatch is no completely out of the question. In regards to Rose having a brother, I think I may have confused that with posts about the diary entries on the official ABC site for Lost - someone I think mentioned that Rose was the author of the diary and that they thought their brother was being held prisoner in the hatch (Henry Gale) and since the real HG was African-American some people thought that he was related to Rose. That theory was disproven however when it was pointed out that A) Rose is from the Bronx, NY, and B) The author of the diary was reported to not be Rose but another Lostie, possibly one of the background characters. So - my mistake for starting that confusion.

#86. Posted by: Lor at July 1, 2006 7:33 PM

Oh! Now I remember! The whole Ana-Lucia being the bodyguard flashback. "She's my daughter and I have a right to see her"....yep I remember that now. (See what happening to me? No new LOST episodes and I'm losing my memory! [just kidding] I think I have short-term memory loss though.)

I'm interested to see where the directors are going with that particular detail.

hey guys
two things:
1.where do the pearl station occupants eat and sleep.
2. if the island heals people why doesnt little things like henry gales shoulder and boones injuries
please reply

Going through LOST withdrawls. My Wednesdays are boring now... Anyway, does anyone know the air date of the new season? At least I would have a countdown of sorts to tide me over...

#89. Posted by: sarah white at July 4, 2006 11:15 AM

Hey Thomas,

To answer your first question - the occupants of the Pearl Station didn't live in the Pearl hatch - in the orientation video it says that they would work an eight hour shift and then go to the Pala Ferry - I guess the Pala Ferry would then take them to their living quarters.

As for your second question - The island heals people but it does it slowly - in most cases anyway - but the wounds heal quicker than they would otherwise, for instance - HG was only with them for about a week - but when you saw him on the dock 2 days after his escape he looked like he was feeling no pain.

#90. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at July 5, 2006 12:40 PM

Thomas - I forgot to comment on Boone's injuries - The island does heal people but not everyone. The island may not have been the right place for Boone's injuries to heal - remember the healer that Rose went to see in S.O.S. - he told her that there are certain places in the world where the earth's energy can heal people, but that he couldn't help her because his place was not the place for her. So, as the theory goes the island is one of those places, i.e.: Rose's illness, Locke's paralysis, they are at a place where they can be healed, but other people (Boone, Libby, the US Marshal) can't be healed because the island isn't the right "place" for them to be healed.

#91. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at July 5, 2006 12:45 PM

Last night as I was rewatching the second season episodes being aired, I questioned why there are so many strange, unknown losties. The extras that are always there and realistically would be involved just as much as everyone else but play no real part??? I wonder if the creators are keeping them there for some reason like plans to later integrate them into an episode (for example, the teacher getting blown up by dynamite). Why are they even there? Maybe it's a dumb question, but has anyone else wondered? Seems odd.

#92. Posted by: meg at July 6, 2006 10:47 AM

Alrite so as I was saying I'm rewatching Season 1 (again!) so I was watched the 1st three episodes last night and i just noticed something.

As everyone knows when the plane broke up in air it broke into three very separate pieces. The first to crash was the tail section which crashed on the north (?) side of the island. The cockpit landed in the jungle and the last piece to land was the main body of the plane which crashed on the beach.

Now my question is how some people ended up where they were.

For instance, Charlie. Our beloved heroin addict was snorting some in the bathroom at the very front of the plane, right near the cockpit and first class area. Now when he got knocked into the ceiling he ran out of the bathroom he ran to the first row of seats and quickly sat down and buckled himself in. The 1ST ROW of SEATS! Then shouldn't he have been with the cockpit when it crashed?

Cindy, the nice flight attendant that gave Jack a little more alcohol than was legally allowed, and was so very good at remembering faces. Last seen in Abandoned right before she was taken by the others. My question is how did she end up in the tail section of the plane. From what I gathered she was standing in the area between the main body of the plane and the front part.
So how did she end up in the tail section's crash?

So anyone how any ideas or theories? I sure don't.

The link for the widmore page is

I haven't been getting myself too involved w/ the online games but I did notice something interesting on widmore's corporate page.
Anthony B. Cooper is Locke's dad!!!!Im sure of it... it has to be.... LOOK AT HIM.
And i do believe Dr. Thomas W. Mittlewerk is the guy from that rachel blake vid... but i could be wrong.

I apologize if this is old news

Middies..yes that does look like Lockes Dad! Someone should call the telephone number under contact us :)

Where has Rousseau been, she has not been in episodes lately..why was she not in the season finale?

#96. Posted by: Amy at July 12, 2006 12:22 AM

Well who knows why Rousseau wasn't there.... I'm sure we'll find out later, but lots of things on LOST don't make sense at first. But I'm sure she's going to show up early in season 3. because we all know that there's gonna be an attempt to rescue Jack, Kate, & Sawyer even though its Hurley's job to convince the survivors not to. She's probably going to be part of the rescue effort since she really wants Alex back.

#97. Posted by: Lor at July 12, 2006 2:19 PM

Actually....I just had a thought after my previous post. Will there be a rescue effort? What I mean is that the main people who go run off trying to rescue everyone is Jack, Kate, & Sawyer (only because he gets to use a gun). So with the main instigators gone, will there be a rescue?

Locke, Eko, Desmond (provided that they're alive) along with Sayid & Danielle Rousseau might band together to save them, but they're definitely not going to outnumber the 20+ Others.

So will there be a rescue? Or not?

#98. Posted by: Lor at July 12, 2006 2:26 PM

Hi everyone - great blog, Mac. I had never seen an episode until on vacation at the beach with bad weather two weeks ago and watched both seasons on my iPod. Fantastic show and I'm hooked. Anyway, I signed up at Retrievers last night and the newsletter/confirmation I got was different than the ones posted here. It referenced a new, "Wand Prowess," and said think of the name not as it is, but as it could be. Obviously the producers and writers love anagrams.

Fortunately we have the Internet Anagram Server at to help us out. I searched something containing "Dr" and "Son" - thinking there's a connection with Jack and his dad - and also the "Press and Wow" (the button?) was interesting for a second or two. But Wand Prowess is an anagram for "NEW PASSWORD"... is there a site, perhaps Hanso when it's back up, where the numbers are the userid and the password might be Wand Prowess?

Wow.... only took a month for this blog to get dull... Hopefully season 3 starts early September... haven't heard anything yet.

#100. Posted by: middies at July 16, 2006 10:57 PM

I'd guess not until October. The season two DVD's come out on September 5 and they'll want to give people a chance to pay up for those as refreshers for the season, I'd speculate. $60 on Amazon FYI...

#101. Posted by: Kris at July 17, 2006 3:32 PM

Im sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I had to say this:

If you add up all of the numbers in

4 8 15 16 23 42

It comes out to 108!
In the hatch, they have 108 minutes to push the button!

A coincedance? I think not!

Again, Im sorry if someone has said this before. I just had to get it out!

#102. Posted by: Shayde at July 17, 2006 9:11 PM

Have you seen the Hurley-centric episode from season 1 called "Numbers"? That would show you that the numbers show up everywhere in many of the character's pasts.

#103. Posted by: Lor at July 18, 2006 8:46 PM

Everyone! Please go to the National Television Awards link to vote for Matthew Fox as Best Actor, Evangeline Lilly for Best Actress, and LOST for best drama. They deserve it, and you know you want to. :D

#104. Posted by: Lor at July 18, 2006 9:00 PM

Alternative smoke theory. Maybe it's been said before, but every theory I've seen about the smoke monster / security system is it reads your mind and presents images / emotions from your past.

But what if it's the other way around? What if the smoke, or nanomachines (man I hope that's not the explanation), is reactive. Rather than scanning your mind, it's a hallucinogen ("sickness?") and people see in it what they most fear. For example, Mr. Ecko saw his troubled past. As a saved man, he probably fears reverting to such a life more than anything else. Or perhaps people see in it what they need to see - this would explain Locke calling it beautiful. Maybe it showed Helen to him.

The reactive viewing - rather than the proactive displaying - may also explain why in the first season's Pilot episodes, the monster sounds the same as the plane coming apart did. Identical sounds. Of course, it doesn't explain how or why the smoke exists. Or how it destroys all those trees. Anyway, just a theory.

P.S. I hope in season three they finally answer the meaning behind Jack's tattoos and giving up flying lessons, Locke's wheelchair, Jack's dad's missing body, how did Sayid fell in love with (ugh) Shannon, and the age-old question of would Libby have really slept with Hurley if she hadn't been gut shot?

#105. Posted by: Kris at July 18, 2006 11:13 PM

Has anybody noticed on the Hanso Website (which is now RED and not available) there is a link to a video of Dr. Middleberk. This also plays on ABC every now and then. I noticed that the Dr. is limping. I wonder what that is about. I'm sure it's a clue of some sort. What do you think Mac?

#106. Posted by: Scott at July 20, 2006 10:41 AM

Now u got me thinkin Kriss.
I dont know what to think of the smoke monster... I try not to come up w/ my own theories anymore. But i was just thinking about Season 1 finale when it was pulling Locke into a hole in the ground... Surprises me that Locke wouldn't go back to investigate.
And the Sayid question you asked... He's a typical guy. There is more to girls than just personality. HA

AND I JUST REALIZED!!!!! Michael and Walt forgot Vincent, they have to come back

#107. Posted by: middies at July 20, 2006 4:55 PM

Weird, weird, weird...I was watching a typical Spanish summer soap opera, called SMS ( you know, young people trying to find love at high school blah-blah-blah)and suddenly, one of the characters opens a safe to take out some money...guess what he takes out first...a little statue of a virgin with the numbers on it!!!!!!!
I've been freaking out all day wondering if I should call a shrink or use it as a clue...who knows!!
(Mac, I´m still waiting fot that contract!!)

**********SPOILER ALERT*************

JJ Abrams was interviewed in this weeks TV Guide. He commented that he hoped to be more involved with the show this year, including writing a few of the episodes and hopefully directing at least one. He was asked if there was anything he could let the fans know about season 3 and he responded with - - - - - -"Desmond is not dead".

OK OK OK - I know what you're thinking. Duh Mr. Grimm - we all know he's not dead. The point is we all speculated that Desmond, Locke, and Eko weren't dead, but now we have confirmation that at least Desmond did survive. And if he made it then we can safely assume that so did Locke and Eko.

#109. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at July 26, 2006 10:20 AM

Hey y'all! Just wanted to drop in and say hi....hope you are all having a great summer. I am getting to the point where I can no longer live without LOST....but your conversations are keeping me entertained!

Great point about Vincent....I hope they come back for him!

#110. Posted by: Vikki at July 26, 2006 12:03 PM

Im sure you have all realized by now, but Lost season 3 will start on OCT. 4... according to ABC's lost website. It's a little later than i thought, but as we all know, worth the wait.

#111. Posted by: middies at July 28, 2006 8:44 PM

Mac, do you have a policy about spoilers here? Being somebody who goes to great length to avoid them, I now cannot read this particular forum because I noticed somebody posted yet another spoiler. Once a spoiler is posted, the entire thread is ruined because not only do I have to avoid the spoil post, but also avoid any subsequent posts that respond to that post. So, much to my dismay, I can't read this forum anymore. UGH. A spoiler section would be nice, and deleting spoilers from "normal" sections of the forum would be nicer.

#112. Posted by: KG at July 29, 2006 12:18 PM

Hi KG,

soory for spoiling the forum for you - that wasn't my intention. That's why I put the words spoiler alert in big letters with asterisks. Of course it's not the kind of spoiler that really ruins anything, we all knew (hoped) that Desmond was still alive, besides the creator of the show put the information out there for the simple fact that it's not that big a deal if people find out that Desmond is alive. But, once again, it wasn't my intention to spoil the Filmfodder experience for anyone. Mac, please let me know if you will be banning "spoiler postings" in the future.

#113. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at July 31, 2006 2:08 PM

No harm, Mr. Grimm. I didn't read your post once I saw the spoiler warning, so there was nothing spoiled...Until you repeated it in your reply to me! LOL. No prob, at least it wasn't a bad spoiler.

Anyway, my point was that it's not as easy as avoiding a single post (even though it's clearly marked as a spoiler) because any posts after that may reference it. I kind of liked that Mac's forum didn't have a spoiler section (just to avoid temptation), but if it would prevent spoilers from being posted in general threads, then I'd be all for it.

#114. Posted by: KG at July 31, 2006 3:24 PM

Sounds like a good idea KG.

HEY MAC - whaddya think???

#115. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at July 31, 2006 3:53 PM

Anyone know what ABC's doing with the Lost summer re-runs? Two of the last three weeks, a rerun was scheduled in my paper and in my digital cable on-line guide, and then as I sit VCR controller in hand, there some lame-o summer replacement airs instead. Last night they showed 4 "George Lopez Show"s back to back, right through the scheduled rerun of the show that introduced us to Henry Gale.

#116. Posted by: Cecil Rose at August 3, 2006 4:16 PM

I wondered about that as well. The last three weeks it was there in plain view, up until a few minutes before the show was supposed to air and then it just disappeared. I am in southwest Florida, and wasn't sure if I should blame it on my local channel??? Or, is it happening everywhere? The dumb dvr tapes George Lopez and I have never even looked at that.

#117. Posted by: meg at August 5, 2006 12:56 PM

I'm in Texas and the same thing is happening here - they advertise LOST in the paper, on the ABC website, and on my digital cable guide, then right before it's supposed to air, the take it off. How are we supposed to keep up with season 2 before season 3 begins?!?! It's bad enough the season 2 DVD package doesn't come out until the day before season 3 starts.

#118. Posted by: Kat at August 5, 2006 5:34 PM

I agree! What happened to the LOST re-runs. I haven't known what to do on Wednesday nights when I was normally sitting with my eyes glued to the tv looking for any clue that might pop up.

And Kat...I've got some bad news for you. Or maybe its good. Depends on your point of view I suppose. Season 2 DVD comes out on Sept 5. New LOST episodes don't start until Wednesday Oct 4 at 9:00. So on the plus side you have plenty of time to watch season 2 again. :)

#119. Posted by: Lor at August 5, 2006 8:09 PM

Hi everybody.

I found this superb blog site while satisfying my craving for 'Lost' and can only echo the many, many words of appreciation for Mac's outrageously good work - thanks again!

Anyway, I was watching Series One again and noticed, in 'Exodus (Part 1)' that Rousseau - when 'explaining' what had happened to her team - made mention of one of the team ("Montagne"?) "...lost his arm."

This got me wondering about Dr Candle/Wickman and how he had regained the use of his right arm by the time the 'Pearl Orientation' video was filmed. At first I thought that his arm must have been healed by the Island (a-la Locke and the rest) but Rosseau's specific mentioning of this incident would suggest that the loss of the guy's arm was no accident.

I also thought that the 'Orientation' Videos for each station must have been produced at roughly the same time so that proper monitoring of each station could be carried out.

I have only just caught up with events after caving in to temptation (I was waiting for the complete Season 2 box-set to be released) but couldn't wait any longer so I downloaded the lot.

What a show!

Already looking forward to frenzied Season 3 discussion and much more of Mac's fabulous writing - entertaining AND highly informative; a great combination!

Keep up the good work, all.

Ps - sorry about the un-user friendly way this post has come out - I can't get my paragraphs to space properly (as in, not at all) :-(

#120. Posted by: Ted Jack at August 6, 2006 7:47 PM

Aha! The 'preview post' function does not space out paragraphs, but they DO come out properly :)

False alarm - go back to your 'Lost' box-sets, people :)

#121. Posted by: Ted Jack at August 6, 2006 7:49 PM

You know, the only thing that is even remotely interesting about this show is wondering how it will end, however, why would they ever end it? The show brings in far too many viewers to wrap it up for years. It's like a long movie mystery that never ends. I'm not looking for instant gratification but it lacks sub-plots. Every episode leaves you asking more questions than the last. It's like never ending masturbation. Waste of time....

#122. Posted by: Nick at August 10, 2006 1:04 AM

ABC's hide-n-seek with the reruns continues. A Lost rerun was in the Raleigh paper's TV listings, but not on the digital cable guide last night. In the event, no rerun showed up. Will we ever get to finish reviewing S-2 before S-3 starts?

#123. Posted by: Cecil Rose at August 10, 2006 3:27 PM

For those of you folk who are wondering what happened to the reruns this summer. I saw ABC's lost site has a new episode listed for Aug. 16. I think they had to take a couple weeks off so that they could show the finale right before season 3 starts. At least, that's the only logical explanation i can come up with.

#124. Posted by: middies at August 10, 2006 6:46 PM

How is that the only thing interesting about LOST? I mean everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, but how they end LOST is the only thing that interests you? I don't understand that at all, but whatever.

#125. Posted by: Lor at August 10, 2006 8:58 PM

Bad news on-screen cable guide still shows Lost as on for next week, but the ABC website shows the next airing (yeah, right) for August 23! So, the 2nd Season DVD comes out in September?!?! Coooool! I thought it didn't come out until the Season 3 started in October! Oh man, I hope they don't change those dates again! Hang in there guys.....we'll get our craving satisfied sooooon!

#126. Posted by: Kat at August 11, 2006 6:56 PM

Has anyone noticed how LOST seems to hae set the standard or somehow spun-off other shows with some of the same content? For example, Kyle XY, on ABC Family/ABC, seems to be about cloning or cryogenics or superior mind power and Eureka, on Sci-fi, is about a bunch of geniuses working on all sorts of projects for the government. The testing facility can't be seen by those who shouldn't see it. In the pilot episode one of the characters even made the comment that other people could only wish to have a "Security System" like theirs. LOST has the Smoke Monster/Tree Slasher thing, not to mention the electromagnetism that keeps satelites from finding them.

Has anyone else noticed other shows trying to touch on the facination behind LOST and all the experiments done by the Dharma group? Or even notice how a lot of shows can now be downloaded as podcasts. Did this happen much before LOST or has LOST set the standard?

Is that Apollo bar giveaway thing for real or just another publicity ruse? Someone who lives in the NY area will have to go to the Park Avenue country club tomorrow and find out! If it's for real, I'd love to get my hands on one of those delectables!

#131. Posted by: Trinity at August 22, 2006 4:11 PM

After getting a hint from the apollo candy web site. I researched the greek god light. This is what I found.

Aether Greek god of light. One of the primordial cosmic deities, a personification of the upper sky. Hesiod makes him the son of Erebus (darkness) and Nyx (night). The union of Aether and Hemera (day) resulted in the birth of Earth, Sea and Sky along with many deities including Saturn, Oceanus, Atlas and the Furies.

"Oceanus" - sound familiar to anyone!
I wonder if the 4 toed statue is supposed to be Aether? Also wonder if the other names will come into play later.... Atlas and Furies.

Well, after several false promises of Lost reruns, last week and this week the schedule on my digital cable guide didn't even hold out any hope - George Lopez reruns last week and 20/20 scheduled this week. Question - if we can't trust them when they say it WILL be on, can we trust them when they say it WON'T be on?

On the lighter side - another LOST reference spotted. In today's (Mon, 8/28/06) Hagar the Horrible comic strip, Hagar's viking ship is being pursued by a pirate ship clearly named "Black Rock".

King Feature no longer links to every comic but you may be able to see it here:

I remember reading about the logo on the shark months ago in one of these blog threads. Just saw it for the first time yesterday on the Lost s2 DVD. I also discovered a new character connection i never noticed before. Hurley's boss at the chicken shack is the same guy who was Locke's supervisor at the box company. That guy really is an @$$H*L!

After watching Season 2 again, w/out commercials or repeats, I just cant wait for more Desmond stories. Im dying to know why he ended up in prison.

Why would ABC specifically place a close up shot of some random character like that? and not the other dude in the station as well, I say that’s Jack, way too many similarities, also I went back to the last scene and I was able to pin point specific teeth nose and eye similarities. That’s Jack, and most of all that is **CKed up because I can't even begin to make sense of it. This show is TOO much!!!!!!

Does anyone have more information or a recap of Ms. Widmore. Is it in the end all about her relationship with Desmond? Did her father put Desmond on that island to bring them apart? I mean maybe her father is one of the Hanso or Darma people? I am not as informed as most of you guys, but i love the show….and cannot make sense of it. Oh and that is totally Mathew Fox playing that guy on the phone, maybe it is the crappy version of jack? Again a clone theory...

Vero.... Over the summer I learned that Widmore and Hanso are working together in some way or another, Sun's pregnancy test was a Widmore product (which Sawyer pulled from the supply drop)... Also, if you check out, you will see that Thomas W. Mittlewerk is part of the board of directors. He's also one of the Hanso corporates.... same guy in the rachel blake video's.

And as i posted earlier this summer, Locke's dad is also part of Widmore's BOD. Anthony B. Cooper. -i still haven't gone back to Lockedown to see what his name was in the obituaries.

Thank you.
That helps I also read some of the summaries provided on this site and they also put things in perspective.

To everyone: Happy 2-year anniversary of the crash of Oceanic flight 815. Let us all bow our heads and have a moment of silence for those killed on board, and pray for those not yet found.

OK this is probably pointless because I'll probably forget to read any responses.. but Fake Henry Gale confuses me.

He says he is a man of his word, but why did he lie to Locke about not pressing the button? Clearly he did because nothing apocalyptically bad happened.. but he told Locke he was one of the good guys? So either Fake Henry is full of it (taking corpses names doesnt help his cause), or Locke is a BADDIE or something.

Aside from the whole concept of killing off Locke, Eko and probably Desmond seems pretty radical, WHY would it have killed them? Far as I know, electromagnetic pulses don't affect humans.. i know it was a big-assed one, and maybe a few of the guys had fillings, but other than that? Maybe Jaws from James Bond would come off badly .. didnt Desmond's army roomie look like Jaws? ANYWAY

I heard an old plane go overhead this afternoon, and I swear it was JUST like the low WHOOMing that the Swan-Deathstar gave off! I just feel bad for the hatch.. what a mess!

In the words of Marge Simpson: "Hmm.. that's not good for the clock.."

remember Locke didn't let the timer go all the way desmond pushed the key, the items being pulled to the wall could have been prevented by the lockdown.
