"Lost" series finale to be extended

One thing we've come to expect from any Season Finale of LOST is a very dense, action filled, plot twisting, mind bending, perspective shifting ride that lasts two hours.

For the ultimate Series Finale, we can now expect even more - including more LOST!!

You heard that right. In their mission to provide as many answers to so many crucial questions, and wrap up so many loose ends the LOST production team has shot so much critical material for the hugely anticipated series finale that ABC has agreed to extend the series finale by an extra half-hour. This announcement comes one day after Lost executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof announced that they had finished editing the final episode.

When the LOST finale airs Sunday, May 23, it will run from 9 to 11:30 p.m. It is still unclear whether the extra 30 minutes will air instead of the local news, or if the local news will air afterwards, pushing the "Jimmy Kimmel Live: Aloha to Lost" post-finale special to midnight EST. A two-hour retrospective is also set to air before the finale.

Of course when it's all over, we can all look forward to Mac's final "Lost" recap.

On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso, and all of us here at the Lost Blog -- thank you, Namasté, and good luck!

So who posted this? mac, are you referring to yourself in third person now? Vacc?

Good thing they extended it, too, because there's no possible way they could have cut even 30-minutes from this final fast-paced season. But at least it means relatively more Darlton, relatively less water-treading writers.

@Cecil #2 -> who posted this?

Yep, it was vacc, not a "third person". In fact, the last person I would want to be on May 23 is mac. I'd probably get an aneurism trying to recap the last LOST ever.

This is exciting. Hopefully Kimmel's special will air directly after Lost, pushing the local news back to 12:30.

Do you guys know if the series finale will air at the same time in other countries? i.e. Mexico?

I haven't had a chance to read the other posts yet, but did anyone notice that the Lost Finale is going to be a half hour longer???

Nyuk nyuk. I just wanted to say vacc that your closer was hilarious, and thanks for the good news!

Now back to the recap thread, which will take me forever to read!

I thought that the finale was gonna be split in two....Sat night (1 hour) and Sun night (1:30)? Can anyone verify this?

#9. Posted by: Red...Neck...Man at May 10, 2010 1:26 PM

@9. I actually thought they were going to show 30 minutes a day spread across 5 days.

#10. Posted by: ALEX_ANGEL at May 10, 2010 4:28 PM

Why not a Lost Minute every day and we can stretch this thing out until October?

#11. Posted by: Cecil at May 11, 2010 12:16 AM

One second burst per year for 270 years . . ? . . .

Ok, now that I think about it, that's a bit unrealistic.

5 second burst per year for 54 years. That's better. I'll only be 119 when the final credits roll!

Ok, y'all have officially "lost" it. :)
