It seems we've reached an impasse regarding the Jacob good/bad thing ... both sides have merit, and there's simply no definitve evidence to prove/disprove either side ... I'm quite sure that's just the way TPTB like it.

Arguing further is moot ... but that said, personally I just don't buy the conveniently simplistic Goofus and Gallant morality play implied by the "Jacob is good theory" ... for that reason alone, I choose to think otherwise (without any evidence, I know, I know ... JMHO!).

So, the "big picture" seems fuzzy, but that doesn't mean we can't delve into the minutiae. Which brings me to Horace ... interesting character. A few people mentioned earlier that they thought dead Sayid might have been skeletor at the van (i.e., Roger Workman), but those thoughts were quickly proven wrong.

However, what if dead Sayid is dead "Horace" from the pit where Locke pulled out the map? I don't recall seeing that idea here, but forgive me if it's passe ... Feeling a bit too lazy to post pics right now, but trust me when I tell you that dead Horace from the pit had his uniform unbuttoned down as far as the scene allowed us to see, at least down to near waist level (I have an HD shot if really necessary to post later on) ... it was pulled up together, but unbuttoned ... a critical detail (maybe?).

You can look up Horace on Lostpedia and see his dead body on the bench post-purge ... fully buttoned up. Sayid was wearing Horace's jump-suit when he was shot (and died?), but Jack unbuttoned the suit down to his waist to get at his wound. The dead body in the pit from which Locke got Horace's map had his suit unbuttoned (unfortunately, we can't see his t-shirt ... dead Horace on the bench had a white tee, but Sayid was wearing a black one ... that would've been definitive). Therefore, I would suggest that dead body belongs to Sayid, rather than Horace himself.

Not sure why this might matter, or if it's just one more example of continuity error, but something has my spidey sense tingling that it's important.

I also note that Horace in Locke's dream kept repeating the tree-chopping scene over and over, and had the bloody nose ... this seems consistent with the time-skipping seen after the "first" FDW turning, including those with time on the island suffering the nose-bleeds. Once again, this might mean nothing, as a "forgotten stub" the writers have long since abandoned ... then again, it might mean something.

I really have no theory here, just observations. If someone can make sense of this, more power to you. Just suggesting that, for whatever reason, Sayid will end up being the dead guy in the pit who's body Locke rifled through for Horace's cabin map.

Is Jacob or Man #2 responsible? I do not know ... nor anyone else (?) but TPTB and Matthew Fox (?). Hate to even suggest it, but perhaps even they don't! ;)

PS: Still think Jacob is going to end up BBBAAADDD! If I'm wrong, I will be shocked ... of course, given Lost's history of surprising me so far, perhaps I shouldn't be! ;)

My love for Desmond may have influenced the results :) And, yes, my hanky was quite moist after that scene!

The next two (Sun and Juliet) were almost a toss-up. But Sun's scream of anguish as she watched the explosion edged out Juliet's final "I love you". Not by much!

While I do really miss Charlie and hope we see him again (we must!), I never completely "got" his death scene. The whole question about why he didn't close the door from the outside took something away from the emotion of the moment for me.

What about Sayid and Nadia's reunion at the airport? I might even place that scene as #4.

Another moment that comes to mind is after Locke woke up from surgery to find himself alone, couldn't believe his father was only interested in him as an organ donor, and drove to Anthony Cooper's mansion in his little beater car, only to be turned away by the (formerly friendly) gate-keeper. Parental rejection at its ugliest! Terry O'Quinn is the best actor on the show, in my book.

And I've probably wanted to cry during some of Jack's scenes (in disgust), but let's not go there!

There were a good number tearjerker moments, but I think a lot of them to me were OMG moments . . . I can't believe this is happening.

Realizing that most of those were the FINAL SCENE ENDING (tho there were others for sure) - how about a tally from folks on what you think was the ultimate "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING" moment of the entire length of the series . . .

(Remember, some may appear to be "not so bigdeal" now, but at the time of their broadcast they may have been the biggest shock of the moment....)

I always think about that first season scene with Locke and company staring down that long hatch escape. Talk about the "what now?" thoughts in our minds that night? . . . Things were about to change . . .drastically.

The latest EW has scoop that Claire will be back as a regular next season. TPTB left as a mystery of course how she would be coming back or why. But coming back as a regular it would seem she would have an important role to play.

It seems that Jacob brought him back to life by touching him after he fell. So did he die twice?

And what about John's brush with death at the Dharma grave site? Who appeared to John as ghost Walt? Walt himself, Man2, Smokey, Jacob? And did he help save him or was it enough that John was missing the vital organ that the bullet was meant to hit?

Jacob 'chose' Locke, initially. Man2 somehow uses John's body/mind after it is returned to the Island, as a loophole to kill Jacob. But Jacob seems to foresee everything. He knows more than Man2, like 'they are coming'. He made sure that Ilana and the Statuarians show up with Locke in the box. And perhaps he knows about the Lostees pending return, and man2 doesn't.

I think it will be Others vs Statuarians, with some Lostees on either side. All those slips of paper Ben was talking about, I don't think they came from Jacob at all. I think that Jacob was put out of play by Richard a while back (manipulated into it by Smokey aka Man2, in a fiendishly clever way), who then manipulated Ben into thinking he was working for Jacob, while he was really working for Alpert who has been blinded by the dark side and is unwittingly serving it's will. Alpert probably is convinced that he is doing the right thing for Jacob and the Island, right up untill when Man2's treachery is finally revealed to him by Ilana. Man2 will now lead the Others. To become an Other, you have to be baptized by Smokey/Man2. Something dies inside you, something good. It changes you forever, you can never again leave the path of shadows, of the dark side. The Statuarians are the Islanders who have stayed pure, unspoiled by Smokey. They are Jacob's true people. They were forced to temporarily leave the Island, when Jacob was taken captive. Now they are back to reclaim it.

Jacob the entity may still be present on the Island, to lead the Statuarians in the war against Man2 and the Others (final confrontation at the temple:D!). Even if he is dead, he has probably already planned his strategy, foreseeing how the different players will act.

so, possible explanations include:
a) (courtesy of mischa:) RA was compromised and has been giving manTwo's lists and orders and philosophy to the others while jacob has in fact been inprisoned

b) maybe smokey is in fact a manifestation of JACOB, not manTwo. think about it... they have the same philophies of good people and bad people. maybe manTwo and Jacob are BOTH able to manifest as dead people. so while NOTlocke has been a manifestation of manTwo, then yemi, ben's mom, alex, and others have been a manifestation of jacob... all playing into jacob's mega-superstar con over manTwo.

my one issue is... if smokey is jacob is leader of others, then, why did the others have to bother with the brainwashing room #23... if they wanted to convert carl and sawyer to 'otherness' why couldn't they have just enlisted smokey/jacob's help?

I like the idea of Jacob and Man2 being physical appearances of 2 sides of the same man/entity. Makes sense. Dark and light can't exist without eachother. Maybe he's a schizophrenic and his multiple personalities manifest themselves as true, seperate entities.

I also get what you're saying about the Others and their agenda. But Bram also talked about the statuarians being the good guys. Dharma thought of itself as good. Everyone thinks that they're the good guys, doing what's best for the Island or for their own people or for the whole world, the future.

So who is leading who?
1. Ilana has ties with Jacob. He asks her to help him. She also seems to be the leading Statuarian.
2. Man2 tells Richard that they need to 'take care' of the Statuarians. You know what he means.
3. Man2 poses as Locke. Smokey tells Ben to do anyhting Locke says. Locke says, kill Jacob.
4. Man2 leads the Others, as Locke. One short speech and they follow him across the Island to Jacob. They may not know who he really is, but still. Alpert might.
5. Alpert's comments to Kate and Sawyer about the consequences of rescueing young Ben. Losing his innocence. Forever becoming an Other.

Conclusions:
Man2=Smokey=leader of the Others
Jacob=semi-human=leader of the Statuarians

And those are the facts ;-P

Ben had off-island operatives stage the car crash, then transport a drugged Cooper on-island with the intention of emasculating Locke as a leader.

The purge happened courtesy of poisoned gas. Any remaining Dharma operatives would have had to follow certain criteria to prevent exposure to any more biological weapons.

At that point, Ben knew the Widmore freighter team was en route. Ben cut off all off-island communications in an effort to prevent anyone on-island from communicating with the freighter.

Those weren't visions- Desmond's consciousness jumped into his actual physical body in the past. Eloise herself was actually there to make sure that Des chose the correct path and voluntarily agreed to go to the island and push the button.

A guess is that the Others were being punished by someone/something who was preventing the mothers from carrying their pregnancies to term. One way to soothe unhappy couples who want but can't have children is to provide them with surrogate children.

Apparently with a lot of money. Because Faraday traveled back in time, plus Hawking had his journal, Widmore had decades to prepare for the fake crash.

Totally agree ... ten years ago, I mostly bit my lip over the ignorance/scams of Y2K fear mongers ... not this time. This BS needs to be revealed as the complete crap it is, well before we reach the same frantic crescendo of insanity that preceeded Y2K ... of course followed by ... anyone, anyone?

Jacob/power could be playing both sides of this contest. he posses as the both the ying and the yang and is testing mankind. if the christian God is a Trinity of one, why not have the same diety in our beloved story? This time we are being tested and judged,

However, I've just watched the final episode again from Season 5, and I've got a new notion: perhaps Juliet setting off the bomb (if she did) and the screen turning white at the end coincides with the stabbing of Jacob 30 years earlier. I know that from the blogs that I've read here and elsewhere, most theories revolve around what Juliet did and people figure that either the bomb or the pocket of electromagnetism created "The Incident" and will somehow reset time.

But what if the next season's changes are really all about the stabbing of Jacob by Ben and Locke-Not-Locke kicking Jacob in the fire? Maybe that is what will cause all of the changes in the up-coming season. (Maybe Jacob being kicked into the fire will turn him into the Smoke Monster!)

My notion tonight is that everyone will find themselves NOT in Los Angeles and not in either 2007 or in 1977 on the island, but far back in the island's past when the statue was whole and Jacob and the Man in Black (featured at the beginning of this episode) were inhabiting the island and the boat with the sails was approaching.

And when Jacob said "They're coming" as he was stabbed by Ben, that is what he was talking about. Somehow, our "Losties" are going to show up on the island in the far distant past, and they'll be on that boat, and Jacob and the Man In Black will still be using them to carry out their fight with one another.

When I rewatched "The Incident" tonight, I noticed that Sayid put on Horace's jumpsuit, so I think that ealgumby may be onto something. It's a really good clue. Of course, Horace may have had more than one jumpsuit with his name on it, too!

This whole business with Rose and Bernard is bothering me: I am having trouble remembering who was caught up in time-jumping and who wasn't. But if they were on the island when the flaming arrow attacks were happening, but chose to not take up with Sawyer/LeFleur at Dharmaville and just kept to themselves, weren't they affected by the time-jumping nosebleeds and disorientation? And if they weren't, why not? They were on the island the whole time, from when it first disappeared . . . So didn't they jump around in time?

And if they just kept to themselves, how did they know that they were living 30 years in the past (which one of them mentioned?) Who told them the timeline if they were avoiding everyone?

When it comes to my most shocking/most tearful moment, I think the one that really affected me was when Nadia was hit by the car.

I could feel it, just watching it . . . and I loved Nadia and Sayid together.

This dude votes for scene where Des called Penny. And though the Juliet "death" scene was intense, by the time we arrived at this season's finale, I was too cranky about the time traveling to feel as invested as I would have liked.

The biggest wtf moment for me was Jack's "we have to go back." Did NOT see that coming. Michael shooting up the hatch was up there, as was the scene that got me really hooked on the show in the first place: "We're gonna have to take the boy."

I mean, Horace defiantly died in the Purge anyway...

Unless history has already been changed by the arrival of the Losties as part of the DI and the Purge didn't happen at all, or happened at a different time than we originally thought because their presence in 1974-1977 changed the DI timeline. (Unless, of course, they were already there originally.)

your other theories sound very plausible however. appreciate a fresh point of view on some of the things that have been rolling around the back of my head for the past couple years.

I must watch flashes before your eyes again to really remember eloise's role there. and regarding the others stealing people back in season 1 and 2... well, i've just recently rewatched those seasons and the others kidnapped more than just children... they kidnapped 10 or 15 adults too. having just seen those episodes, the fertility issues just don't seem to answer that question for me...

Just a hunch:
It would appear that Jacob has been able to come and go from the island whenever he pleases. It would also appear that Jacob knew that Locke's father would push him out of the window: otherwise, why would he have been reading the book on the bench very near to where Locke landed? He needed to be there to 'touch' Locke back to life after the fall.

So it wouldn't surprise me if Jacob somehow was able to get The Man From Tallahassee to the island in the same way that he got there.

I suspect that Jacob has been using Locke for a long time, with both Richard and Ben as his emesaries at various times. Ben may not have ever seen or met Jacob, but he did receive his lists and faithfully followed the instructions. And the more I watch the early episodes, the more I think that Locke was playing into Jacob's plans from the very beginning, when he was miraculously healed after the plane crash.

I think that Locke was being tested by Jacob from his very first moments on the island. Jacob needed Locke to die and then to become re-animated and attack him. I'm guessing that the whole Locke scenario will turn out to be a part of Jacob's master plan.

Like I said, it's just a hunch.

The comments about the Man from Tallahassee and Sayid in the purge pit, got me to another random, roaming tangent. I always thought in the Purgatory theory that everyone on the island was already dead, and the airplane crash was the illusion-method of getting the characters to make personal atonements prior to final judgment.

A new, grim take on the "They are all Dead" camp:

Death Merchants.

Human beings have a want of pure Darwinism and can kill themselves doing the most stupid things. However, what if there are spiritual beings who create human fatalities in order to steal that person’s soul? (Jacob and Man#2 beach talk). Favorite method of extraction: car accidents where fatalities are expected.

Premise: Every character we have seen in the show is already dead.

Means of Demise: Death Merchants, evil or magical beings, create situations where human targets are killed at the right moment that they can steal their souls. Souls in the Egyptian understanding of a ka, and body double reconstituted in some form of an afterlife existence.

Objective: Once the souls are taken, they are programmed with new timeline of events (Room 23 mind control). Then the souls are released on the island (an illusion or projection like Horace’s skipping holographic image near the cabin). The true purpose of taking souls is unknown, but we have been making analogies to various “games” between spiritual beings. The "con" on the characters is that their reality, their "time lines" are not real.

The humans who are killed by the death merchants retain their last, most vivid emotional thoughts and feelings (i.e. the daddy issues, murderous actions) which cannot be erased during mind control (The Human Variable).

If you take into consideration the factual or continuity errors as being not real, but post-death emotional brain washing cues, then it does not matter if anything truly makes sense or needs to be answered because it is all diversionary to keep the big premise hidden from the viewers until the last reveal.

Below is a work--in-progress character list and their possible “real” demise (clues being any odd character story lines that have reoccurring consequence in island events) before boarding 815:

Jack: not the great doctor in his flashbacks: real cause of death, drug OD in Thailand (drug spiral, never resolved father issues, odd tattoos)

Kate: after killing her stepfather, while under arrest with Mars, killed in traffic accident when
horse crossed car’s path (leading to her perception of out of body experience and continual flight panic from Mars/authority figures, seeing the horse on the island)

Hurley: died of a heart attack when he watched Lottery drawings and his "Numbers" won (recall, Hugo fell flat on his face when the Numbers were revealed; from that point in his mind the Numbers haunt him)

Locke: killed when his mother was hit by a car while in the womb (raised by others as a special or “miracle” baby, but in essence a blank canvas that can be easily programmed) I would also put premature Ben in this situation.

I mean, Horace defiantly died in the Purge anyway...

Here's one take of Horace defiantly dying:

Horace: I will NOT die in the purge.
Horace: I WILL NOT DIE IN THE PURGE!

I went to see "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian." One of the main characters was the older brother Ra. When he started talking about his younger brother and the door to the Underworld, etc., etc. I started smacking my husband in the arm saying, "That's from Lost, that's from Lost!"

I got so wrapped up in thinking about Lost, I couldn't even concentrate on the movie. Yes, I have a problem. I'm ready for January.

On a side note, a movie recommendation - as long as you are not easily offended, The Hangover is the FUNNIEST raunchy, R-rated comedy that I have seen in a long time. Not for the weak of heart, but funny, funny, funny.

i can get that she knows general things about desmond (that he pushed the button, etc) from reading her son's journal, but i still am very unclear about how she knew those specific events... it was almost as if she was experiencing the whole thing for a second time WITH desmond. is she a time consciousness traveler too? cuz if she was travelling via the FDW then there would be two of her (one past body and one future body). but since there was only one of her...

The writers, the directors, the cast—did they really think there was a network series in this bizarre pilot about a downed airplane & the mystical mayhem it unleashes? Eloise' knowledge of the future - I had a theory on this that I posted following Eloise' and Penny's conversation at the hospital in Long Beach. I thought maybe Eloise and Charles we are seeing are being led by their consciousness from the future beyond the 2007/2008 timeframe, and they have already lived the events once before. This is why I believe that the Whatever Happened Happened postulation is incorrect. Both Eloise and Charles end up at the Hospital and neither of them know what is going to happen next. Desmond being shot was a significant event that neither of them remembered happening. Something changed, and i believe that the two were compelled to come to the hospital because they both realize that they are now in previously uncharted waters.

OK, I’m sorry, but somebody has to say it. I am already very tired of the headlines concerning how “the world is morning the loss of Michael Jackson.” Even the Pope made a statement about the great loss to humanity . . .

Folks, we have young men and women giving up their lives for our country and the freedom of others every day. There are young people in Iran who are probably going to be beheaded because they support free elections. There are thousands of children and girls kidnapped every day for the sex trade in Africa and the Far East. And yes, there ARE starving children in Africa . . . STILL! Michael jackson is not a humanitarian. He has squandered millions on his own lavish pleasures. He is not a spiritual man. He was a odd little man who fondled little boys. Quit anointing him to Sainthood.

I have friends who died in the jungles of Viet Nam 35 years ago and their memory and their sacrifice are STILL more important to me than a dance video. “Thriller” did not change my life. The loss of brave hero friends changed my life.

You want to mourn something? - Then mourn the homeless, mourn the abused children, mourn the abused women, mourn with the family of a fallen soldier, mourn for the veteran who served his or her country and now spends dreary days in dilapidated hospitals.

If you want to celebrate lives . . than celebrate the teacher who taught you to read, celebrate the coach who showed you how to kick a soccer ball, celebrate the clergy who stand with you in times of sorrow, celebrate the lives of those who hold you in their hearts daily . . . Celebrate your friends, your children, your parents, your siblings.

And Holy Smoke Monster, Michael Emerson, our very own Benry, was on an "X-Files" episode called "Sunshine Days" (apparently one of the most hated episodes ever, just because it was nearly the last one of the series and it didn't answer any of the myth questions.)

Emerson played the guy named Oliver who could transform his surroundings into a likeness of "The Brady Bunch" house, complete with all of the characters from that show.

I was delighted to be able to see him for 2 hours in a row!

I finally got around to watching the entire series "Dead Like Me". I had previously seen the odd episode or two, but that was it!

I must say - I really enjoyed it! Awesome series - what it was canceled after two seasons is beyond me!

Enjoyed the odd cameos by Lost alumni - Michael as a Yoga Instructor, and Keamy as the angry hick who hates parking tickets!

Sadly, was rather disapointed with the recent special "Dead Like Me - Life After Death", especially with Henry Ian Cusick. Perhaps I was ticked due to the lack of Mandy Patinkin, (who really balanced the series), but there didn't seem to be all that much to Ian's character.

For the life of me, I don't understand how they could recast Daisy Adair. Since the original actress couldn't do it, they should have simply not used her character.

Looking forward to S9 of Smallville, where Callum Blue (aka Mason) will be playing Zod!

Maninblack believes that all humans who are introduced to the wonders of the Island will eventually abuse it and taint it, destroying themselves and others in the process. It always ends the same.

That implies that Jacob has done this many times before. I think that is part of why MIB means to kill him. He doesn't want more people on the Island, because he knows why Jacob keeps bringing them.

Jacob means to destroy MIB. He and MIB are not brothers. Jacob was brought to the Island by MIB at some time, along with others. He became the first human to pass it's judgement. He became it's companion. But Jacob did not share MIB's cynical views of mankind, and was appalled by it's cruelty in judging them. They quarrelled about it many times and ended up hating eachother.

So Jacob wants to kill MIB and win the Island for mankind. Partly because of that, MIB wants to kill Jacob. A nice bonus for MIB is that, with Jacob out of the way, nothing prevents it from extending it's grasp, threatening humanity, etc. But somehow, neither of them can do it themselves. Something to do with magic, constants, divine intervention, having made a promise, whatever.

Then, somehow, Jacob obtained a huge advantage. He saw the future. Not just flashes, he got a detailed view of it. This allowed him to plan ahead, place pawns, create the right chain of events that leads up to MIB's destruction.

MIB is not aware of this. He is clever. He has found his loophole, using ancient magic and the image of John Locke to manipulate Ben into killing Jacob. But he is too late. The end, the only possible end is already closing in on him. Jacob has set up everything to perfection. He has the right people (re)appearing on stage at the right time. Events that at first view seemed to aid MIB turn out to contribute in his downfall. (not without a few scares, close calls, major and minor revelations, explosions, fights, cgi monsters, anguish and dramatic deaths throughout the season, ofcourse!).

After that, all is well. Humans of all cultures and creeds will peacefully inhabit the magical Island, blabla, Garden of Eden, where humankind will evolve into... something... weirder.

That was Saddam's favorite show... he modelled his leadership style after Millie the supervisor, and his parenting style after Georgia's mom.

Oh, I thought this was funny and wanted to share. A friend of mine used to play football against a Norfolk, VA, team. They could never keep from cracking up in the huddle when they heard them cheer:

I'm not sure we can read too much into subtle color changes. I believe on one of the DVDs they discuss, and even illustrate, how the post-production "color correction" process can sometimes make unintended changes, such as a character's eye-color. All in the name of making the scenic island color more 'natural'.

I like that. How about "LOST in Space"... not to be confused with "Pigs in Space", although a muppet version of LOST might generate some appeal.

Quality *almost* up to mac standards, Quantity much greater (try reading the whole LOST forum for even one show), Timeliness about a week behind mac, Atmosphere a little more rigid and rules-oriented than the relaxed ambience around here (break a rule in the forum and they WILL slap your hands).

Worth looking at, and so many posters they sometimes catch something we don't, but average quality not up to fodder network standards.

I agree with you about Castle - and they're rerunning on Saturday nights fr anyone who missed the originals.

LOST connection - "Castle" (a mystery writer shadowing an NYPD detective to get ideas and at the same time assist in solving cases) is played by Nathan Fillon, late of Firefly/Serenity, who played Kate's policeman husband while she was on the run and doing taco night.

Kate drugged him and ran away when he was proposing taking a delayed honeymoon in Mexico, which would have outed Kate's fugitive status.

If you haven't seen it, rush out and find "Dr. Horrible's All-Singing Blog" on the net or YouTube, in which Fillon does a great self-parody of his heroic roles as "Capt Hammer", the nemesis of Dr. Horrible. The made-for-the-net production is in six parts, you'll want to see all six in order.

Neal Patrick Harris is perfect as Dr. Horrible, in fact the whole cast is superb in this made-on-a-shoestring exercise that was made during the writer's strike.

"Defying Gravity", a new fall ABC series debuted its pilot last night. The series deals with a crew of eight astronauts that depart on a six year cruise to several planets of the solar system, the first being Venus.

The usual SF-on-TV scientific bloopers prevail. Gravity is present on the space ship Antares with no explanation (or maybe I missed it in the first few minutes), despite the ship having two rotating sections, that obviously highlight the need for artificial gravity - but gravity is present in the non-rotating sections.

Conservation of momentum is not preserved as the bold commander Maddux Donner stands flat-footed in an air lock with no restraints and reels in hand-over hand an astronaut (Honey) ejected from the ship during a space suit pressure check.

The crew is four men and four women, obviously designed for romantic sub-plots, one of which is already brewing between Maddux and Honey.

One bright spot is the aforesaid commander's casting, Ron Livingston, of "Band of Brothers" note.

Worth watching a few more shows to see if the sense of wonder from their voyage can overcome the scientific ineptitude and schmaltz of the script writers.

Interesting that House's hallucination in the finale was nominated for both "Best" and "Worst".

The explanation for the non-floaty astronauts aboard the Antarus was special gravitational fibers in the spacesuits. Hence the airborn nookey when the commander and his wife got naked.

I really enjoyed the show, probably because it's easier to suspend disbelief when you know nothing about aerospace science :)

I thought the plot was good (if soapy at times, as Cecil mentioned), and I'm curious to see where they go with the ?alien? mystery.

The producers referred to the show as Greys Anatomy in space with some Lost-like mythology. And Ron Livingston... I'll be watching again.

As it is, YOUR reply on the "Fringe" thread doesn't make a lot of sense...

All, if you have not seen the stuff from ComiCon yet, I suggest you find it fast! There was a lot of really funny stuff and a few easter eggs...two faux commercials, and a website http://tinyurl.com/ktvd42 which will either shed light on season 6 or send you down the wrong trail depending on how the writers want to play with us. EW this week also revealed the name of the first episode for next season.

My favorite parts of ComiCon were the fan made videos. Especially the last one!

Alas and alack, it appears the "new" "imp[roved" ABC website is, like most such inovations, a step backwards.

The tgood news is that there appear to tbe a complete set of video podcasts on YouTube, and much easier to access than through ABC's crummy 'player'.

The bad news is that the lack of access to them on the official site, as well as the delightful new "Lost Untangled" feature from this year, make me fear that no new ones will be produced.

Starting to watch Lost from Epi 1 and reading your Blog and all the Comments all over again is just such a nice way to spend the Lost Hiatus till January. :o)
I didn't even remeber that during season 1 there were just like three comments following your reviews, sometimes two being doubleposts, sometimes there were even zero posts. And the written comments were still more à la > or > ;o)
Not only did the focus of the show change prominently (at least that's how I feel), but also did this Blog. And I think in a nice, stimulating, very informative way. I think it's a reflection of how the show (and the fans) evolved. I love it! Even if the transition hasn't always been easy for me: I could never have told in advance in which direction the show was headed. But I stayed (on the Lost raft ;o) and there's really ZERO regret. Wow, five years now... how many memories (and not only Lost Flashbacks ;o). And now looking forward to the last chapter, the ultimate season. Who knows where TPTB will lead us, the fans? I didn't even find this blog until the end of season 2. I think my first comment, tremblingly posted, was to the S-2 finale. And now here I am writing two blogs (soon to be three) for FilmFodder.

Actually, I wasn't even sure about Lost for the whole first season. The lack of realism of the crash (old aero engineer, here) had made me feel this was going to be a fantasy series.

I think it was curiosity about what we came to call Smokey that kept me sticking around. Still does, in fact.

I've come to see that the seeming lack of realism in the crash is a clue pointing to a whole story line (moving islands, time travel, dead people appearing, etc) that can't be explained without serious plausible but consistent hypotheses about reality. And I've developed enough faith in the writer-producers to think they can oull it off.

I have an idea about what these might be, and later on I'd like to write a scenario and publish it here for the amusement and critiques of the other fans - and hopefully some others will, too.

Really looking forward to S-6.

When Jack and Kate find "Adam and Eve", Jack finds a small bag on one of the bodies. In it? One white stone, one black stone.

-Christian's body was not in his coffin; yet Locke's body was.
-the group swears to tell a lie for the greater good...this first time was about Rousseau's recurring transmission
-Charlie doesn't swim.
-Boone does, but not that well for a lifeguard. He also is pretty bad at CPR for a lifeguard.

Very interesting Season 1 observations, FenwayBen. Please keep them coming, as I am starting to watch Lost from the Pilot all over again right now. It's so different to watch certain scenes, storylines and/or characters now.

Cecil, that's funny how Smokey was able to catch your attention enough to keep you watching Lost. For me, it was the masterly creative writing in creating those strong characters with their backstories that kept me going. I thought the whole show would be about those people "stranded" on a deserted island (Yeah, I know, I'm an old boring romantic ;o). I really thought the biggest misteries of the series would be Smokey, those Polar Bears on a tropical island, Rousseau, the numbers and maybe other inhabitants of the island that we were probably never going to see (Ok, looking back now, that really sounds immensely boring ;o). I thought the series would end when they would finally get off the island. Never, never, NEVER would I have thought it would be about bigger misteries such as... well, we all know (or do we? ;o). Don't get me wrong: I watch pretty much every genre, as long as the writing is solid. It's just that I had completely misinterpreted the intentions of the writers of the show. So I have had a fairly hard time adjusting to the new pace of the show for a couple of episodes. But as I've said, those characters kept me going. I think that's the goal of good creative writing, right? And now here I am, five seasons later, enjoying every bit of the (crazy) ride. :o)

Oh yes, please, Cecil, I would love to read your scenario, as I have to admit in all sincerety: I have absolutely NO idea anymore what the writers could have in mind for the final season.

When Rome came back for a second season, I reviewed that, and as it drew to a close, I discovered that the previous House reviewer had dropped out, so picked that up half way through season 3. Little did I realize that it would be hell conveying the feel of a dramatic series that relies heavily on dialogue for it's wit and sparkle.

Last year, again in response to a drop-out, I did the spring Season of Survivor, and i'll be returing in the Fall to Samoa.

And now I've been accepted, once again joining in the middle of things, as the second season reviewer for Fringe.

Like Lost, I had some reservations on Fringe at first, but warmed up to it as the series found its legs, and the season finale won me over - now where do they go from here?

Even suspending disbelief that the passengers would survive a plane breaking up at altitude, or a survivor being sucked into a running turbine engine dislodged from its fuel source, I soldiered on because frankly, network television is mostly compost fodder.

I was fine with the writers throwing mysteries in back stories and island conflicts. I was fine with the tangent towards science fiction. I just fear that there has been so many side bar story arcs, fantasy elements and questions that the writers have literally painted themselves into a corner with no way out.

So Mac, if you ever need a Dollhouse reviewer, a Top Chef reviewer (Las Vegas is off with a bang) or a V reviewer (I still love the original miniseries, and looking forward to seeing Elizabeth Mitchell off Island) you have my address!

Much the same for me, but add in Typee/Omoo/Mardi for good measure. What REALLY got me though, was my conviction that Lost was derivative of the "Shore Leave" Star Trek TOS epi (itself derivative of "Forbidden Planet") ... still not convinced I was wrong.

Re the writers painting themselves into a corner ... I am firmly in the camp that "the" story line has NOT been decidedly in place since the beginning (contrary to much popular belief, often voiced here). I am also convinced the conceptual style of the show was changed in S2 to allow for more easily piecing new plots to intentionally-placed references, allowing the writers multiple paths to pursue with future epis without having to commit ahead of time (i.e., what I have in the past referred to as the "stub" theory). IMO, this is the only thing which has saved them from corner-painting doom (although just barely ... eek, eke!).

I cannot help but notice the parallel to modern physics (also an integral part of the show's mythology) ... just about anything is "possible" in physics, given enough dimensions, and just about anything HAS been possible on "Lost," given enough stubs (i.e., undue focus/attention paid to apparently irrelevant people/items/issues such that the writers can work future plot developments around them at will, inveigling fans into exclaiming how awesome it is that "they had it planned all along!" ... cue eye roll).

Does anyone else think the Progressive Insurance ad chick has a huge head, or is that only me?

Just saw yet another ad with her on TV during a preseason NFL game, and was once again stunned by the physical immensity of her head! I find her somewhat creepy in a way I cannot exactly quantify, but I'm sure it must somehow be related to the scale of her cranium.
