Toronto Film Fest Sets Line Up

tiff.JPGFor the last couple of weeks, news has been trickling out of the north regarding which films are on the docket at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Someone in that PR department knows what they're doing, because the buzz generated from the constant stream of announcements has me (and countless other film lovers, no doubt) wishing I was headed to Toronto.

At long last, the final line up is set for this year's fest. A whopping 352 films from over 61 countries will screen over nine days in September (7th to the 16th to be precise). Among the filmmakers debuting their latest works are Ridley Scott, Christopher Guest, Pedro Almodovar, Anthony Minghella, Mira Nair and Darren Aronofsky; 62 films mark directorial debuts.

The star power slated is enough to light up the city, with names like Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Reese Witherspoon, Sean Penn, Jude Law, Dustin Hoffman and Anthony Hopkins all on the guest list.

The term "kid in a candy store" is an understatement as I read through the seemingly endless list of films: "Volver," "All the King's Men, Breaking and Entering," "Penelope," "A Good Year," "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" (this year's Cannes Palme D'or winner), "Babel," "Infamous," "Bonneville," "The Last Kiss, For Your Consideration," "The Namesake," "Stranger Than Fiction," "The Fountain"...I get all giggly just typing them up!

Bookending the Festival are "The Journals of Knud Rasmussen" as the opener and, just announced, "Amazing Grace" as the closing event. Grace is the story of William Wilberforce, the man who ended slavery in the United Kingdom.

Read about the line up here and here.
