The Lost Blog

Lost: Another one bites the dust?

Whether it's clues from the show, producer's hints, or blogger speculation...It's inevitable that we are gonna have a few people 'pass away' before the end of Season 3. Who will it be? Let everyone know your theories as to who and why here!

In an ironic twist, Charlie will live and Desmond will croak.

Juliet is also about to meet her maker, which will be a catalyst for Jack to bring down the Others any way he can. Revenge baby!

Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Locke, Kate, Sayid, Rose, Bernard, Claire, Jin, Sun, & Walt all will live to see another season.

But Dezzie and Michael (maybe off screen) are toast.

So is Patchy-Mikhail (for real this time). And traitor-to-be Naomi. And Cindy. All toast.

So is

"So is..."

(I guess you were supposed to fill in the blank there.)

Mrs. White in the Dining Room with a lead pipe.

(Because Gram-ma makes the man.)

Dudes, the producers have said that 5 people will die this series. Well, remember when Eko died and Locke said, "He said we're next."

Who was standing next to him! 'We're' probably means Sayid, Desmond, Nikki and Paulo, but oh yeah, Nikki and Paulo are dead! and yours truly Locke was standing there too.

Eko, Nikki and paulo are dead, therefore
Desmond, Sayid and Locke should watch themselves!

What do you think? Too obvious?

#4. Posted by: andie at May 7, 2007 1:47 PM

No, JoePike! Don't kill off my Scotsman! :) Desmond will survive another season, because we haven't seen the flashback to explain his dishonorable discharge from the Royal Scots regiment (fingers-crossed!)

I think Ben will bite the island dust, making way for Locke to take over as cult leader for the Others. And then I’ll say Naomi, Bernard, and Cindy. But I think the rumor is 5 deaths, so I’ll have to add somebody else. Hmm, maybe Charlie, but will it happen? Because it’s rumored that Charlie dies, but then he may live, because the producers want to surprise us. But what if they know that we know that they know that we know, and so they kill him anyway? This show is exhausting.

#5. Posted by: Clementine at May 7, 2007 1:50 PM

In a surprise development, Jack has been secretly training the 40 remaining surviviors whose names we've never learned as an army, and leads them on the warpath to slaughter the entire Other contingent (saving only Juliet, who is quasi-Other, anyway).

The remaining three seasons then play like a version of Gilligan's Island, with the wacky adventures of Jack as the Skipper, Charlie as Gilligan, Bernard and Rose as Mr & Mrs Howell, Sayid as the Professor, Juliet as Ginger, and Kate as Mary Anne.

Sawyer, disgruntled at being left out, becomes a hermit on the other side of the island and recreates Robinson Crusoe for occasional guest shots, and adopts Rousseau as his woman Friday.

Sun and Jin move to Alcatraz Island where they recreate "The Blue Lagoon".

Hurley, of course, disappears in a puff of blue smoke after his secret identity of Jacob is revealed.

#6. Posted by: Cecil Rose at May 7, 2007 1:59 PM

Whoever actually read the article about what the Producers said: Was it 5 people *starting now*, or 5 people *total* in the season (aka, Nikki and Paulo were the first 2)?

I think:
-Patchy or Juliet
-Naomi (who will turn out to be an other).

If I haaaaave to pick a Lostie.. I think maybe Jack, Sawyer, or Sun will die.. or Jin trying to save Sun. (I vote Jack.)

#7. Posted by: seakay at May 7, 2007 2:08 PM

@7 seakay:

i remember reading the article and it was that there would be five more deaths leading to the season finale. That was said before The Brig ep. Anthony Cooper was #1 on the list.

#2 Charlie
#3 Richard Alpert
#4 Naomi
#5 Vincent - dang dog has more lives than a cat - his luck has gotta run out some time.

Except for AC none of the above are in any particular order.

#8. Posted by: Mr. Grimm at May 7, 2007 2:27 PM

Rousseau took the dynamite, will she go the way of Azrt?

#9. Posted by: Jennwith2ns at May 7, 2007 2:30 PM

Russeau seems the most obvious choice for a deathwatch. Her character serves no purpose in island dynamics and represents a dead-end in plot development.

One of the Charlie/Desmond pair must die. To continue the current dynamic much longer would turn it into a bad joke. I like killing Desmond better. Without Desmond to peer into Charlie's future, his future returns to the same closed-box-without-observer Schrodinger's Cat state as the rest of us.

I think the writers will remain true to form and kill off the most recently introduced character, Naomi. She may or may not get a flashback episode before she goes.

I'm guessing we'll get an episode that explains that Walt and Michael died. Else, wouldn't Naomi be telling us they were found?

#10. Posted by: Deep Cover at May 7, 2007 2:56 PM

Seems we've already had 6 deaths this season ... though only the first 3 were Losties ...

1. Eko
2. Paulo
3. Nikki
4. Mrs. Klugh
5. Danny
6. Alan Seward/Anthony Cooper/Ted McClaren/Tom Sawyer/Louis Jackson

Not sure if that's enough for this year or not, though I have heard a rumor that Dominic Monaghan wants off the show to pursue other opportunities.

You're forgetting Coleen, the reason Danny was so bent out of shape. We "Deadwood" fans can't forget dear Trixie.

The producers have stated that there will be 5 deaths, one starting with The Brig.

My Death Predictions

1. Anthony Cooper - Just desserts!
2. Charlie - only because he has stated this is his last season. (
3. Claire - Uncle Jack will raise lil Aaron. (I hear that Claire and Charlie will finally do the nasty and we all know what happens when the uglies bump!)
4. Ben - he is a slimy slug and Juliet will be the one to pour the salt. One can only hope!
5. Juliet - Smokey will get her!

You're so right ... thanks ... guess it was back in S3E2 that Sun shot her and S3E4 that Jack was unable to do anything for her and she left us. Seems sooooooooooo long ago that this season started.

#14. Posted by: losttravel at May 7, 2007 4:32 PM

Unfortunately, It's probably Dezzie and Sayid. </3

#15. Posted by: Arr Kay at May 7, 2007 5:05 PM

I heard Kate will die in a shooting at the end with Ben and Sayid.

#16. Posted by: Cindy at May 7, 2007 6:48 PM

Charlie already "died" in Desmond's flashback (flash-forward?) when he took the arrow to the neck. Maybe that counts as one of the five, even though he's really still alive.

#17. Posted by: rhondab57 at May 7, 2007 7:36 PM

@ Cindy,I heard Kate will die in a shooting at the end with Ben and Sayid.

I doubt that they would kill of those three, it seems to me like they could develop those characters more.

#18. Posted by: mc.lostie at May 7, 2007 8:25 PM

The only ones I want to be offed are:

Juliet- she is just the epitome of pure corrupted evil.

Bernard- he's so whiny someone just do us the favor.

The New Chik- She won't survive the punctured lung and crash landing bit.

Mikhail/Pathcy- does he really need to wear that eye-patch?

#19. Posted by: maurice at May 7, 2007 10:06 PM

Don't forget that Colleen died. Does it have to be one of our regulars?

#20. Posted by: peb at May 8, 2007 12:12 AM

I'm with you maurice....I definitely want Juliet and Bernard to go. Naomi is high on my list too. What about Sun's baby.....does that count as a character? I'd hate to see Rousseau go, but I really don't want any of the main characters to go. I'd pick Rose before Rousseau.

#21. Posted by: Juliet_is_evil at May 8, 2007 12:27 AM

Naaaaaaaaah- not Bernard! Can't break up the only true love couple on the island!

#22. Posted by: JoePike at May 8, 2007 11:28 AM

@ #8 Mr Grimm
Didn't Vincent go on the boat with Michael and Walt? I'd be more than alright if Michael is one of the 5. Or Cindy - It seems fishy that she's suddenly getting so much screentime..

So far, the tally is...

Naomi - 7 votes
(and 2 votes that she's a baddie)

Charlie - 6 votes

Juliet - 5 votes

Ben - 4 votes
Desmond - 4 votes

Bernard - 3 votes
Cindy - 3 votes
Michael - 3 votes
Patchy Mikhail (sounds like an Irish name - Patchy McHail) - 3 votes
Rousseau - 3 votes
Sayid - 3 votes

Claire - 1 vote
Jack - 1 vote
Kate - 1 vote
Locke - 1 vote
Richard Alpert - 1 vote
Rose - 1 vote
Sun's Baby - 1 vote
Vincent - 1 vote
Walt - 1 vote

#23. Posted by: seakay at May 8, 2007 1:44 PM

@ seakay/#23: Thanks seakay...'preciate the tally, that's cool. Also, I don't think Vincent was on the boat with Michael and Walt. Didn't he run out of the woods w/ Roger Work Man's arm in his jaws?

I guess I'll throw my 2cents in...I would have to guess our future dead will include:

1. Cooper who's already gonzo
2. Charlie
3. Ben
4. Richard Alpert
5. Giant Talking Parrot

I truly hope parrot doesn't bite it. But I think that removing Ben and Alpert will call for the opportunity to have new leadership amongst the Others. Then we have new sides that must be chosen. Or whatever!

#24. Posted by: Red...Neck...Man at May 8, 2007 2:19 PM

@ RNM & seakay:
Vincent did NOT get on the boat with Michael and Walt. That footage wound up on the cutting room floor, but WAS in the DVD collection as an out-take, so people who've seen the DVD and see Vincent getting on the boat with Michael and Walt often mistake this as having happened. So, Vincent is still taking dumps in the jungle and bringing dead people bones to the losties. What the heck has he been eating anyway?? Polar Bear droppings? Dogs just love sh&t like that...

#25. Posted by: BunnyLover at May 8, 2007 3:52 PM

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie!!!!!!
Does that count as 3 votes?

The little sneaky, coniving, sob has got to go.

#26. Posted by: ButchM at May 8, 2007 4:11 PM

I don't wish any bad "karma" on any of the losties... okay! I just want to make a comment... Remember the episode when the others sent Kate to the showers, gave her shampoo and a pretty dress. Then we saw her on the beach with Ben having breakfast? The next scene, she was sent to the cage opposite Sawyer and had handcuff wounds on her wrists. Does any one out there think that Ben may have forced himself on her and she could be carrying "his monster child?" I think the writers have implied it's Sawyer's kid she may be preggers with, but I remember that episode so I'm pretty sure that may be a plot twist later on. She was pretty sad when Sawyer asked if they hurt her.

Anyway... sorry to change the subject. All the others can DIE in hell for all I care.

#27. Posted by: Janet at May 8, 2007 5:21 PM

No freaking way does Desmond get killed. His back story (Penny's search/Widmore Industries) has been set up to become perhaps THE most important storyline of the show.

Who I think will or would like to see go:

1. Jack - I just plain don't like him.

2. Charlie - the writing has been on the wall for like 5 or 6 episodes now. (alternately, Claire may take Charlie's "place" in Des' visions. she won't ever give him the goods, but she will sacrifice herself to save Charlie.)

3. Ben - Locke will become the new "chief" of the Others. Ben has got to go.

4. Kate - continuing Sawyer's trend of giving the "kiss of death"

Those are my votes. Thanks for reading.

#28. Posted by: markthefish at May 8, 2007 5:32 PM

RedNeckMan and BunnyLover -- THANKS for clearing that up for me! I thought Vincent would show up again, and my boyfriend (who caught up on the show mid-season via DVD's and downloading) told me they took the pooch. Now I know why, and I totally remember him bringing the arm this season. Dogs will eat the poop from anything, so I'm sure he's still a way-too-hefty-for-living-in-the-jungle healthy dog. Until he dies saving someone -- bwahaha. He'll show up TOTALLY randomly, chew Ben's face off or something to save one of the Losties, and then another Other will shoot him.

#29. Posted by: seakay at May 9, 2007 1:25 AM

@27 Janet:
Great theory, but alas, it won't come to pass. The producers (Cuse/Lindelof) stated in a podcast that the handcuff wounds Kate appears to have are the result of a struggle she gave that ended up on the cutting room floor. They stated for the record that nothing significant happened to Kate after that breakfast with Ben that wasn't shown in the episode.

I highly doubt Jack or Ben will be killed off. Ben's character is too intriguingly evil (and the actor too great!). I see the show going far with him. Jack isn't going anywhere either- I think he's about to become even more significant to the mythology of the show. Plus, they have the ep coming somewhere down the road where Jack finds out he's got a sis/nephew on the island...right before he's about to hook up with Claire. (Eeeeeeeeew!)

Speaking of Claire, she and Hurley have my favorite backstories, so they can't kill them off. I'd like to see these backstories expanded on even more in the coming eps.

#30. Posted by: JoePike at May 9, 2007 8:31 AM

@ Janet/#27: I would have to disagree. Simply....I don't believe that Ben (who says he is one of the good people) would participate in raping an unwilling woman simply to 'see if she'd actually live' so he can have a little quatto or something.

Why would you think the producers would use rape as a major set up theme to trick people later on? Odd. This is not a good thing.

#31. Posted by: Red...Neck...Man at May 9, 2007 9:35 AM

1 The Orginal fake Sawyer
2 Sun
3 Suns baby
4 Charlie
5 Alpert

Since we now know the end date for the show i dont see how they could kill off to many more of the original characters and still go on for the 3 more 16 ep series

#32. Posted by: Dakota at May 9, 2007 11:14 AM

Don't know who will die other than probably Charlie... but NO chance Jack dies. Despite recent eps, he is still the centerpiece. Just my take, who knows.

#33. Posted by: R at May 9, 2007 11:43 AM

Locke is dead???

#34. Posted by: Nick Georgas at May 9, 2007 11:03 PM

I don't buy it that Locke is dead, but it does not look so good. I'd be really surprised.

I don't think Rose or Bernard will bite the dust. They haven't even been in one episode this season. Where are they anyway?

I heard that the show will be moving away from the Others so I'm guessing that at least 3 of the 5 will come from that camp.

#35. Posted by: Matt at May 10, 2007 12:01 AM

I just read that Jack and Locke face off in the finale so Locke is not so dead...yet

#36. Posted by: matt at May 10, 2007 12:18 AM

@36 - So.. Jacob saves him??

Does Jacob = Smokey and/or the visions people have of those who've died (plus Walt - who I think was a vision but was still alive)

#37. Posted by: seakay at May 10, 2007 2:51 AM

hey mac, this is my first post this season coz i am in kenya where they just started showing the first season on tv. anyway, i have been downloading the 3rd season n watching it n reading your reviews after each episode i watch. i am quite far behind as i just finished watching epi 15 but i had to give a shout out to you bro: thanks for the awesome reviews and hilarious sense of humor...Lost could never be the same without this blog. I can't wait to see MAC's spin on this one.

#39. Posted by: Sillygirl0630 at May 10, 2007 10:00 AM

Sorry in advance for the length of this post.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the whole resolving personal issues thing as the catalyst for dying on the island. If I am not mistaken most of the survivors who have died have done so after finally working out their emotional baggage left over from their lives before the island, or proving that they are beyond redemption. In fact, for a good portion of the theories as to what is going on on the island, this idea has been preeminent to the structure of who lives and dies, since season 1.

Flash forward to the end of season 3. Now we have Hurley finally proving to himself that there is no curse by driving Ben's dad's van down the hillside. The single biggest threat to Hurley's mental/emotional well-being has been the idea that he was cursed, and now he has let that go, and maybe no longer blames himself for everyone being on the island.

In addition, we have seen in the past few episodes a different Sawyer. He treats people nicely for a while, even though he was conned into it, which also makes a fitting loop to end his life: part of his redemption is found in the fact that he spends his life building up negative "karma" by conning people, and then reverses this evil only through being "conned" himself, AND killing the man who set his life on the path of the con-artist in the first place. Anthony Cooper was finally revealed as The Sawyer whom Sawyer has been after the entire time; coupled with the fact that Sawyer ultimately went through with killing him, as we all knew he would. Simply put: Sawyer lived to hunt down and kill the real Sawyer. Now that he has done so, his time on the island is quite possibly up.

Since we know that there is a battle coming, it falls to us to ask who are likely people to fight and die? Sawyer is a fighter who will never back down, the kind of person who would go to his death fighting for whatever he believed in. Hurley is a rich, 300-pound hippie who hasn't displayed any real violence (except toward Sawyer). What happens when a 300 lb coward tries to run away from gunfire? What happens when a 300 lb good guy tries to help other folks running from gunfire? Just speculation here, but you get the idea.

I think it is the height of hubris for any one person to think that they can guess at who all of the "5" dead are going to be, especially since the writers are so good at pulling the rug out from under us (even unfairly at times). Jack, Kate, and Locke still have too much going on to bite it yet, IMO. Charlie can live or die at this point, I just want to stop watching Desmond save Charlie every 3 episodes. But for the number of guesses that are circulating, relatively few people have even guessed at Hurley or Sawyer, even though to me those were screaming loudly as two of the most automatic and obvious choices for "good guy" deaths.

Now please shoot my theory down, because I don't want either of those two go.

#40. Posted by: Matt at May 10, 2007 2:49 PM

@Matt/40 - Excellent deductions. I've posted before that those who've died have made "peace" with themselves. I hadn't even thought of Hurley though. I WON'T think of Sawyer being one of the next to go cause, man-oh-man, I just love the eye candy and live to see the scenes with him and Kate. (Me wanna be Kate...)

#41. Posted by: BunnyLover at May 10, 2007 4:58 PM

i think Mikhail should be the first to die along side Juliet and the either Tom, Richard, or Ben should die next on lost.

#42. Posted by: tyler .c. at May 10, 2007 8:36 PM

@ Red Neck Man: here's an idea for a future question...

In a recent interview with "Entertianment Weekly" Lindelof said the following:

LINDELOF: The reality is, you do know everything there is to know about Jack as a character in terms of what's driving him. But you don't know everything that's happened to Jack. And there is one sort of significant event that we've been holding back that happened to Jack and we're going to show it in the season finale. And as all great flashbacks on the show are, they pertain directly to what's happening on the Island."

Question: WHAT is this "one significant flashback event" of Jack's?

#43. Posted by: GatorGal at May 11, 2007 1:07 PM

I really hope that Julliet goes away. She's a terrible actor. She talks in monotone with a grin/smirk and her eyebrows raised all of the time. It's annoying!

If I had to pick 5...

1. Cooper is already dead
2. Mikhail
3. Charlie
4. Julliet
5. Richard

I don't see anybody important dying yet. And I have also noticed that when the Losties "let go", that they died (Boone, Shannon, etc.)

I heard somewhere that Bernard and Rose will be more of a factor in season 4. You'd think that since Locke healed on the island, that Rose would be considered "special" as well.

#44. Posted by: Eric at May 13, 2007 4:46 PM

I just read that Rose & Bernard are returning for the finale. I hope that Rose does not get killed because I would like to see her "special" connection addressed. I was wondering why she has not been mentioned. The Others can see that Locke is walking again, but do they know that Rose is "healed?"

#45. Posted by: Matt at May 13, 2007 6:56 PM

As much as I don't want it to be, I know it's going to be Charlie that dies. I mean, Dominic Monaghan, who plays Charlie, in my opinion is absolutely brilliant. And cute.

Hence my name, dominoghan.
